As someone whose longtime marriage unexpectedly imploded almost overnight many years ago, I don’t know what to say. ….
Other than I cherish the many great times we had and above all, I love being a dad more than anything else.
And I’m going to make passionate love next weekend to a few SPs less than half my age as part of my recovery efforts, which I anticipate continuing for many years.
That is a great recovery method, and a great outlook on life

Interesting, because two of my divorced friends decided to live together. They got engaged. My female friend ( reasonably well off ) quit her job, moved in, to take care of the house, help with his kids. She poured quite a bit of money into that house, for Reno’s. Being a typical guy it was wanting. They sold that place, bought another as many divorced couples do.

It fell apart.
He went after her original house ( they decided to not sell that, rent it instead).

He tried to screw her for the division of proceeds from the sale of his place ( there’s a legal calculation that is quite fair) and despite being in debt over his head, he refused to sell their joint place so she could just get her equity out. Nor would he buy her out.

. Cost them both legal bills and $$. Because by the time the lawyers finally got him to sell, house prices had come down ( last year)…probably cost them a couple hundred grand.

Edit add
While I agree divorce law favours women, and men often get screwed. Plenty of male assholes out there too. Including dead beat dads.
There are idiots of both genders.
After divorce, one should never even live with a partner again.
Asking for a double whammy.
Being able to lock your door and no one can fuck with you and your peace is invaluable.

To each their own.
I know people who are miserably married, I know people that are miserable alone. And I know people that are quite happy doing both.

Obviously this forum is dominated by men. Some probably miserable in marriages, some probably bitter at exes. So the volume of post and echoes.

Pretty sure, if this were a forum dominated by women, it would be little different. Except it would be about narcissism, misogyny, infidelity, lazy ( he married his mother) male toxicity etc etc.
/looks here.

Ad nauseum.

Leading cause for divorce.
Financial (debt) and financial stress ( bills and living paycheck to paycheck)
/looks around the world.

/looks at two genders, that rush into marriages for wrong reasons ( not knowing themselves, not self aware) , and or mistaking lust for love.
/looks here, and the insane emphasis on hot bodies and DDG..my first marriage.

And then blaming each other when it doesn’t work out….

True. Sometimes i hate being alone, mostly when I'm out and about and see what appears to be happy couples. But I'm also reminded of that old adage: "I'd rather be alone than be with someone who makes me feel like I'm alone." I've also been in that latter situation and trust me, it's more miserable than being alone.

Solid advice right there. I`ve known a number of men who have been clipped for 5, 6, 800 grand or more, plus alimony and support payments. And less than a year later they have jumped right back into the fire with another woman, how many men have gone into second and third and even fourth marriages that crashed and burned, I know a couple 3 and 4 guys. I was divorced in `04, never again, and I escaped essentially unscathed. When I look at any woman now all I see is financial ruin.

For many women, marriage is for the show(wedding) and as a vehicle for having and supporting kids. It often has nothing to do with the husband.

As long as you benefit her/kids you`ll be retained. You are however viewed as a disposable utility, I don`t know the percentage of divorces initiated by women,... 80% plus?

Not sure about Canada, but a google search says 70% for the U.S. A figure I have seen before.

A study led by the American Sociological Association determined that nearly 70% of divorces are initiated by women.Jun 22, 2022

It`s plain to see hypergamy and or gold digging in women. More, more, more. Madonna said it clearly..."The boy with the cold hard cash, is always Mr. Right."

Keep in mind though, that counts woman who say, screw you I would rather be with Eugene Thundercock and his collection of MTG cards, and it also included women who are sick of being cheated on or being beaten. If a woman is used as a punching bag and leaves, she is counted as initiating the divorce because she started the proceedings but who really started the downhill slide.

I suspect in most marriages both parties are at least partly at fault and it's just women who pull the plug because they don't fucked up as hard, but it isn't as if the guy is, WTF man. sometimes sure but the stat is misleading.

As for second and third marriages failing, part of it is no doubt that people don't learn their lessions and just blame the other person. Even if it wasn't their fault, they are prone to picking the wrong person [crazy bitches/bad boys] and part of it is that the first divorce is the hardest, you are breaking new ground and a taboo. Once you have done it... gee honey you used the word infer when you meant imply, divorce time. [and rightfully so in that case]

I don't know. These days, it seems women conveniently discover the husband has bad breath after the kids are born.

I believe second and third marriages have more of a chance if kids are not involved.

I can understand the logic behind this theory. After first marriage one learns a lot and can perhaps correct behaviour and/or learn the criteria for selecting a more suitable partner. There still remains however, the fact that you can never control how your partner will change/evolve emotionally and therefore even if you select a more suitable partner they can still change how they feel in a few years despite your honourable practices and intentions and rob you of 50% once again.

Getting the government involved with your relationship only can result in disaster for the person who owns/earns more than the other.

Married with kids...it's a hell of a work but If you love your kids as much as your SO does. It all works if your priorities are in line with one another...never expect sex at the snap of a finger just because you're married...but if it happens...you make sure it's the best performance you've ever done.... why am I on terb? just honing my skills....

But you can't not have them involved, even if you do an agreement, it has to meet their [judges] approval and guidelines.

Right, so this is why a smart man would not let a woman move into their house ever. If she's not happy with being a girlfriend....go find one who will be happy with it. I should add, this only applies to men who actually earn decent money and have assets. If you don't have a pot to piss in, live paycheque to paycheque and are a renter....then you really have nothing to lose.
