This is the problem today. When people back in the day owned guns, they used it as a tool. Today they use it as swag or to appear tough, militaristic or manly to overcompensate and then use some extreme right wing talking points.
They used it as a tool to fight off the British, to keep Black citizens enslaved/indentured, to protect their families/communities, to hunt, and for sport. Like many tools, it can be used for good or for bad.
Using guns for swag and toughness is the domain of gangbangers and their wannabes (you know, the people murdering each other by the thousands every year, that you ignore). Untrained, undisciplined. However haphazardly, they use it effectively enough to kill each other.
In the US, kids used to bring guns to school, gun safety was even taught in some schools as recently as the 1990s. A shame they didn't do it here or when you were in school. You would have learned about the subject that you have such strong feelings for yet know so little about.
I know that people like you are scared straight at the mere thought of holding a gun. You want everyone to share your deep-seated cowardice.
We're at the stage where weak men create hard times. Hard times are coming.
