Your second favorite mayor after Rob Ford, John the Philanderer Tory, last act as a disgraced mayor was personally putting thru a property tax/building levy hike of 7.2% for the 2023 fiscal year budget, $1.23billion of which is completely unfunded.

What concessions do you think she will make especially considering that she doesn't have anything with which to concede?

I hope you noted the mandate that Doug Ford actually has. 40.8% in 2022; 33% now vs Olivia's 38% now.

Better to focus on the cliff edge that Rob Ford and John Tory brought the City of Toronto to: A $1.5billion budget shortfall for the 2022 and 2023 budgets and a $46.5billion funding shortfall over the 10 next years and how to steer the city away from a financial apocalypse coming much, much sooner than anyone can imagine.
I have no doubt he will bail out the shortfall. Its whether he decides to fund some of the other things that is the difference.

You really think Doug will bail out Toronto's 1+ billion shortfall?
If he does other cities will be lining up looking for the same deal.
He has too. Cities can't legally run deficits. And he already planned to with Tory. And yes, he has a 22 billion surplus at the moment. Which he will use for all of them.

The city running a deficit isn't the provinces problem. Any mismanagement of city funds is the cities fault.

It is, Ford has been offloading services and Tory is paying for some Metrolinx projects which are provincial jurisdiction.

City has millions in a reserve fund. Use it and cut services and increase property tax. Like every other city.
Sure, you can argue these points. But that isn't what will happen. There will be some negotiations, hand wringing for constituents, a few dig whistles to both left and right types. Then it will be paid for with both standing at a podium in a scrum talking about mutual respect, all for the people, a win-win and other blather.

Then budgets will start to come up in March for both and the show starts again.

John Tory depleted the City Reserve Fund to $0.00.

He starved services and maintenance throughout his two terms and increased the property tax by 7.2% for the 2023 budget.

And he still left a $1.23billion hole in the 2023 budget as a parting kiss of death to the Toronto allegedly loves so, so much.

Phone the City of Toronto's Budget Hotline Tips number at 416-INO-SHIT and tell them where to look for all those millions in the reserve fund.

Cities don't exist as Constitutional entities.

They are the creation of provinces.

Hence, the province is ultimately, Constitutionally and financially responsible for cities

Regretting that choice?
No, because I could not stand Del Duca. I know him personally and I do not like the man. I thought Doug did a good job working with Justin through Covid even though he was going against his own base. He came in like a pitbull when he first won office and really tamed down his act but with Ms. Crombie entering the fold, my vote is completely up for grabs. I think she will reignite the Provincial Liberal Party.

I'm not going to whine about your property tax about to be jacked up. 🤣
I wonder if she will pull the scam she did with Jack Layton and move back into Toronto Community Housing to save rent. Meanwhile some family in desperate need of housing will be left out on the street. All you people so happy tonight are going to be calling for her head within a year.
I wouldnt put it past her as her and Layton were pulling in 6 figures then yet thought they were entitled to live in subsidized housing.

She has no concept of of running anything and we just have to look south of the border to see how disastrous their large cities have become when run by Democratic Mayors who spend money that isnt there yet crime runs rapport and their cities crumble. She will act like taxpayers money is her slush fund and as she doesn't have a car yet along even a drivers license look out .

I do agree with her that Toronto residents are not paying near enough property taxes relative to other municipalities and for the services they want. No one wants to pay more in taxes but that will have to happen.

Federal /Provincial money will be needed but hopefully there will be strings attached so the rest of the city isnt turned into bike lanes that arent used or the rest of the city parks turned into encampments.

Toronto disproportionately pays more than they receive both Federally and Provincially but she is the wrong Mayor to rectify the situation.

As Winston Churchill said " democracy is the worst form of government -except for all of the other ones that have been tried"

Unfortunately it was ludicrous to have 102 candidates that just split the vote. The answer would be to have the top 2 vote getters Chow and Ana have a run off that would more accurately determine who is the peoples choice as cooler heads would have prevailed as they do it in some European cities bur alas we don't have that in place.

No it doesn't, you're confusing assets with reserve.
Take it easy on this poor lug.

He's a former Trump Enterprises accountant attempting to burnish his credentials on TERB.
