Out of the 44 councilors and 1 mayor on Kirk's Wiki link list, I count:

1) 20 hardcore right-wing councilors, all from the inner suburbs and 1 right-wing mayor all of whom always voted as a block except on Tory's stupid "jets at Toronto Island airport" and his right-wing "privatizing all of Toronto's solid waste services". And the only reason why these right-wing assholes lost those 2 votes was because their constituents rose up, gave them a mass earful of shit and promised it would be their last terms as councilors.
2) 10 left leaning councilors.
3) 14 centrist councilors whose votes swung depending on the issues and council vote

I remember the council votes. All the right-wing needed was 2 centrists to join them, while the left needed to convince 13 centrists.

That's how we got these repeated and continuous below inflation property tax increases; a $3billion dollar Scarborugh white elephant subway; a going on to $2billion eastern end of the Gardiner move a few meters north; a scrapping of a fully provincially funded Toronto wide mass transit plan; a decaying a decomposing city ........
OK I have to ask. Who are the 20 councilors that you consider hardcore right wing?

Okay, in an inflationary environment if you keep increasing taxes how will people be able to afford it?
This is some weird ass all or nothing thinking. Obviously in this case you would only increase taxes to the point where inflation would be in line with the inflation target and then adjust accordingly.

From there, there are numerous things a government can do to increase affordability with the taxes raised. A straight forward one is progressive spending for the people most affected by the increase in taxes through direct transfers. We have direct transfers already in the forms of the GST credit, Canada Workers Benefit, Canada Child Benefit, Climate Action Incentive Payment. You could either bolster them or make other more targeted direct transfers.

Also, do I need to point out that you are on a sex work forum? If you can pay for an SP every now and then, you can afford to pay a little bit more in taxes.

Center Right is not right wing in the way you are implying. And the ones you are calling super hard core are what progressive conservatives? The PC party is center right not super hardcore ultra right wing or whatever. Generally Canadian right wingers are actually just centrist or at best libertarian.
"oh look, there's a leg ..... and a wing"

All part of the same bird.

Mainstreet Research poll this morning shows Chow with 30% and Bilao with 22%. We may have a race after all, and Tory may have screwed Chow for a second time.

That polling never included undecided. I always knew an anyone but Chow vote would play out. It was just a waiting game.

Sorry to burst your right-wing wet dreams but, the list is a cut and paste from the wiki site that K Douglas linked in the post that I replied to.

Now, onto the question of "crazy", regale us with wondrous tales of your "crazy for you" undying love of Rob Ford, Thug Ford and John Tory despite the fact that they are the ones most responsible for steering Toronto over the cliff into the abyss.

Will Torontonians pull back from the Free Lunch Chow abyss at the last moment, or are they determined to have a dysfunctional council until the next election?

There's a lot of crazy out there!

2a) John Tory then: "I am focusing on heeling my relationships with my family. I will not be endorsing any candidates for mayor."
That's a pretty good malapropism!

What's this "free lunch" that you're talking about?

Is it crafting the 2023 fiscal year budget that includes spending $1.2billion more than it can actually pay for, like John Tory just did a few months back?

Now that is the textbook definition of a FREE LUNCH!

Beats the boxes and boxes of the "Stop the Gravy Train" and "Subway, subways, subway" Deco Label and Tags decals, fridge magnets and bobble heads that you foolishly bought and were unable to onload on other right-wing suckers like yourself.

I can summarize Chow's politics pretty simply. She is the hero of Torontonians who want the city to do something just for them - provide more TTC service, build more bike lanes, provide more social services, provide more subsidized housing - but these people don't want to pay anything for these services - they want "rich people" (translation - anyone but them) to fork over the money. They want a free lunch, and Free Lunch Chow is the one to promise it to them.

Of course, Chow will find out (if she doesn't know already) that there really is no capacity to raise this amount of money just by taxing "the rich". You can only raise that kind of money by raising taxes on most people, almost all of whom do not consider themselves rich (and, in fact, are struggling just to keep their homes). So she will then put her hand out to the Province and Federal Government to pay for this free lunch. They will say no, predictably, and she will then tell her supporters it's not her fault that she got their hopes up with false promises, and that the solution is for the NDP to elect more free lunch candidates at all levels of government. Problem is, if they do that, who will be left to hold their hands out to?

Chow doesn't concern herself with such minutiae. Why would she? She's living off several free lunches including an MPP and an MP pension, and I would imagine a survivor MP pension as well. Her whole life is a free lunch! And her lasting contributions to society? Can't think of any. Talk about money for nothing!

I can summarize the past 13 years of center-right/right-wing leadership and stewardship of municipal government pretty simply.

They were the heros of Torontonians who wanted the city to do things just for them, but with the proviso of not wanting to pay for it. And of course, per right-wing fiscal policy script, these leaders and stewards said, "hey, no problem. We'll give you the shiny baubles that you want and it won't cost you a cent!" These constituents wanted a FREE LUNCH and FREE LUNCH Tory and FREE LUNCH FORD are the ones who provided them with a veritable smorgasbord buffet of free, free, free candy.

Of course, after the past 13 years of FREE LUNCH right-wing leadership and stewardship, the cupboards are bare, the pipes are leaking, the roof caving in and the occupants are tossed into the local encampments, ravines, transit system that have proliferated during the right-wing epoch of FREE LUNCH.

But these right-winger candidates for mayor do not concern themselves with the minutiae of actually formulating plans. policies and budgets to dig Torontonians out of the hole that the right-wing leaders of the past 13 years, with the a cheering support of these same right-wing candidates for mayor, caused.

A $1.5billion crater in the 2022 and 2023 right-wing budgets that is unfilled and these right-wing candidates all say in unison, "We will get on bended knee, kiss the sizeable rump of Doug Ford and beg for mercy and money." Rinse and repeat year after year.

$46.5billion funding gap over the net 10 years, created by right-wing policies. Talk about a FREE LUNCH for the ages!

Please sir can we have more of the same?

NOT BLOODY LIKELY.

Here's a better history.

Toronto was one of the cleanest cities around, well run.
Asshole Mike Harris got pissed because the city was run by left leaning mayors and councillors so he amalgamated to let the burbs rule.
That gave us mostly right wing mayors who made it worse, with the exception of David Miller.
The burbs reacted and elected the crackhead and his brother who killed Miller's excellent Transit City plan and then castrated city council and decided to give their pal Tory, the strong mayor powers.

Now the city is rebelling and the crackhead's brother is panicking.
After Chow is elected he'll try to take away her strong mayor powers.

Your argument that past mayors have done things wrong is not an argument to support that Chow will do anything right. Or is your argument merely "It's OUR turn to screw things up!"?

Your argument that past mayors have done things wrong is not an argument to support that Chow will do anything right.
Your cowering fear of Chow is only surpassed by your non-sensible arguments of support for the politics and politicians that were involved in and wholly supported a $46.5billion funding gap over the next 10 years.
