Round 3 Florida is up 3 to 0 and allowed 3 goals total for 1 goal per game average.

2021 Montreal beats Leafs makes the Finals but loses.
2022 TB beats the Leafs makes the Finals but loses.
2023 Florida beats the Leafs ...
Less than one goal per game average with all of the OT.

Toronto should bid for an expansion team in the NHL, move the Maple Leafs to Chattanooga.

The Leafs will be in decline next season, I have complete faith in them breaking the Chicago Cubs record for futility. They went 71 years without making it to the WS, the Leafs are currently at 55 years without a Stanley Cup Final.

Here's who should be the Leafs next GM.

Since Dubas as been GM, the Leafs have had a Red Green defense.

I wonder if Carolina fans are talking about how much their team sucks and how it's time they blow it up? Or could it be, the Bruins, Leafs and Canes are very good teams. Just not good enough to beat one insanely hot tender...

I heard some dude on the radio, who apparently has inside knowledge, that the Leaf front office is in chaos.
Rival execs think Leafs front office could undergo a few changes this year | Offside (dailyhive.com)
I don't doubt it. I think their plan was to have Dubas return. Then he presented an offer that was unacceptable. Either dollar wise or it contained conditions, perhaps wanting more power or involving less oversight or approvals from the higher ups. Whatever it was, he's out and they're left with finding a new body who's got to make a lot of very important decisions, very soon. No wonder they're panicking.

Only in Toronto and the Toronto media.

Why does Chicago do this?
Its not great value and its a poor fit for their timeline.
With all due respect, Marner is a great 2-way player but from your Habs bias, you don't see it. After Bergeron is gone, Marner will be winning Selkes (he's nominated for one this year). But you might be right it may not fit Chicago's timeline, but then again Bedard could end up being a bust and Marner be could hoisting a cup with the Hawks. We know what we are getting with Marner, Bedard isn't a guaranteed NHL superstar.

Problem with firing Shanahan is, if the Leafs have no President, then who does the hiring for a new GM to negotiate with Matthews, or to trade him ?
Richard Peddie (MLSE's greatest loser) would love to fire Shannahan, thank God he's not on the board anymore.

It's a terrible trade idea that makes no sense for Chicago based on where they are.
I make no comment on Marner.
Instead you say I am bias.
Thankfully you added that 3rd round pick - because that's really going to sway things. Maybe add a 4th as well next time and I will say brilliant trade!

With the value - Marner is a very good player, but Bedard has more upside. That is not really debatable. Sure he can fail to meet it, but the odds are very high that he reaches where Marner at, and the odds are quite good that he takes it another tier.
And are you calling Marner a guaranteed superstar right now or even ever? A superstar is a top 5 player in the league, and no Marner is not that (he is never been higher than 19th in the Hart). He is really good though. Oops, that must be my Montreal bias.

As for the timeline.
Bedard costs $10m less for the next 3 years (that's a lot of additional cap moves for Chicago)
Bedard has contract control for 7 years -- Marner for 2.
Bedard will be about 22 or 23 when Chicago starts to build up a strong supporting core. Marner will be about 30-31. That's pretty significant.

But they that 3rd round pick!

As we see with McDavid and Matthews even a superstar is no guarantee of team success. Ok, maybe team success in the sense that the Oilers and Leafs would be worse than they currently are without them. Plus, their huge salaries are a drag on the cap space.

Apparently Brendan Shanahan blocked a trade last season that would have sent Matthew Knies to Chicago.
All trades depends on what comes back in return but I doubt this would have been a good trade.

So then Shanny should be President and GM. Forget hiring a GM.
He hired Dubas a rookie so that he had full control. Dubas does all the leg work and he gives approval or veto. Why would he want the GM title when he already has the power without doing the grunt work. Dubas was on an expiring contract. He was trading for his life. He would have mortgaged the future even more if he had free rein.
