MLSE just showed some balls in firing the underperforming basketball coach. Let’s hope they follow suit if the Leafs fail again.

You do know that Matthews has 1 more season left in Toronto? And that Edmonton won't have enough cap space to sign him? During the playoffs, they cannot sign Matthews.
The contract dilemma:

AM34 has two years remaining on his current five-year deal — this season and 2023-24. Per the NHL's collective bargaining agreement, he can’t sign a contract extension until one year out from that deal’s expiration, which means July 1, 2023.

He also has a no-movement clause that kicks in that day, which means if he wanted to, he could wait out the end of his contract and walk right to unrestricted free agency without the Leafs being able to recoup anything in a trade.

Leafs will need to address this issue in some manner, and depending on the Leafs' playoff performance this year, his attitude towards re-signing in Toronto could compel them to pursue a trade sooner rather than hit the wall of his NMC.

I thought you were talking about bone head plays in the playoffs. He made two last year which had big impact on the outcome of the series. Through the first two games, he’s been pretty much invisible. With Simmonds there Schenn likely wouldn’t have to take that fight. He’s much more valuable than either Kertfoot or Simmonds.
Who is kertfoot?

Knies in. That upgrades the 3rd line with O'Rielly.
Leafs are one injury/suspension away from dressing Simmonds or the other RW Timmins
So far so good for Knies. He's got decent skill, which will improve and youthful energy and optimism. Not saying he'll make the difference in a series, but he did not look out of place.

well that makes sense that playoff teams can only sign players that are Not under contract, and that current contracts end on June 30 so you can't sign anyone anyways, but is there anyone on the free agent market worth looking at ?

There were 3 seasons when Peter Forsberg didn't play or only played a very few regular season games but played all or nearly all the playoff games.

The salary cap in the NHL started in the 2005-2006 season.
By 2005-2006 season Peter Forsberg was playing for the Philadelphia Flyers.
So without a cap prior to 2005 who cares if Peter Forsberg didn't play any regular season games.
Someone has never heard of Long Term Injuries.
Muzzin didn't play many regular season games this year.
Why isn't he playing in the playoffs? Because he's INJURED

I truly hope you're right.

But I think the Leafs are stuck in the movie groundhog day, the Leafs can't break the repeat cycle of disappointment until they do the right thing and that is "Stop getting suspended in the playoffs".

I can see two scenarios where the Lesfs can lose this series, 1, they get seriously out goal-tendered, 2, the Lightning’s intimidation strategy works so the Leafs’ skilled forwards have sub par performance. Other than that, I can’t see how the Lightning can win with a depicted defence corp.To me Samsonov is still a question mark and his rebound control is a cause of concern.

So listening to the games on streaming on TSN 1050, am I correct that Road games are called on radio " Remotely " ? Is that continuing into playoffs ? OMG rolling my eyes. I recall earlier in season the Radio broadcast was done in Toronto while the game was somewhere else, I know the Blue Jays do this on radio, its pretty evident when crowd noise is being piped in lol, and also very amateur

They tied it up. Garbage goal but it's the playoff.

A win in overtime. That's what the Leafs, once and for all, need!

Out of my love for the city of Toronto I want the Leafs to go through.
