If Edmonton advances (likely) and Toronto doesn't (again likely), can Auston Matthews play for Oilers ? Its not a trade. He's near end of contract. Can Oilers sign Auston ? Will be a great help to Edmonton. After all there's no salary cap in playoffs. He might as well if TO gets eliminated. I've heard of teams signing other players during the playoffs. I am not aware of any rules that would prevent this from happening.
I think all players are under contract until June 30.

Not just that but a team can sign a player during the playoffs that is currently not under contract but that player cannot play until next season and that contract counts towards next season's salary cap.

There is also a trade deadline and that has already passed.

It’s this type of one sided game that I wish Simmonds was on the ice, especially late in. The Lightning wouldn’t be as eager taking liberty on the Leafs.

not always sure...
I still think the Leafs will win the cup when no Leaf player gets suspended (Kadri, Clifford, Bunting Bonehead plays) and under Barry Trotz.
Barry Trotz is taking over as GM of the Nashville Predators on July 1st so good luck with your wait...

Funny how you can tell the Leafs won tonight because no one is whining about the referees on twitter. It's nice to have a reprieve.

The Leafs cannot do what Tampa does, talking liberties in a blowout, Leaf players would be suspended, there's a different standard for the Leafs cause of the narrative that the NHL is in favor of the Leafs, so the NHL tries hard to prove it otherwise.. If Perry does what he does in Leafs uniform, he'd be suspended 10 times. Besides why waste a roster spot for Simmonds who only plays 6 minutes, we have toughness in Schenn, better to have that roster spot filled by Knies than Simmonds.

You do know that Matthews has 1 more season left in Toronto? And that Edmonton won't have enough cap space to sign him? During the playoffs, they cannot sign Matthews.

Did Kerfoot get suspended in the playoffs?
I thought you were talking about bone head plays in the playoffs. He made two last year which had big impact on the outcome of the series. Through the first two games, he’s been pretty much invisible. With Simmonds there Schenn likely wouldn’t have to take that fight. He’s much more valuable than either Kertfoot or Simmonds.

‘It’s equally funny how you look for every opportunity to mock and bash Leaf fans, so it doesn’t really matter if they complain or not. Is finding bad things to say about the Leafs or their fans the only way you find joy in life ?

If the Leafs lose this series, Gabby Boudreau may finally get his dream job, coach of his beloved Maple Leafs.

That would be nice, but I'd also consider Joel Quenvillre. The latter had more success in the playoffs.
