No way anybody would be able to perform like this...

Loved Rickles…

But you are wrong. Comedians today have gone way past that bar. The things said on Comedy Central roasts are a 100x worse than anything Rickles said to Sinatra on the old Man of the Hour Roasts with Dean Martin.

I think you guy are simply saying… “ my generation was the best… and the kids today are ruining everything!”

You're mixing apples and oranges.

Of course the Dean Martin Celebrity Roasts were tame. They aired on network television before 11:00 PM. You can't compare something like that to a nightclub stand-up performance, or something airing on a pay per view channel or a streaming service. I don't know if Comedy Central has commercial sponsors, but if they do, they will be companies that aren't afraid to be associated with controversy. Nothing edgy is ever sponsored by Proctor and Gamble, Johnson & Johnson, or McDonald's.

Show me ANYTHING today that comes close to the type of humour published in National Lampoon before the mid-1970's, and it was considered mainstream. You can't even buy a magazine that shows tits from a newsstand or convenience store anymore.

I'd say it's different...Rickles would go after blacks, jews, irish, italians, etc...now it's all about sex and profanity.

I don't think the line Rickles uses about a 6 year old black boy "First black kid I've seen that definitely won't black basketball", would fly.

Russell Peters does both now.

Fair point. I am just saying todays comics cross lines…. The difference is you hear about the complaints. There were complaints back then too. There simply wasn’t a social media to criticize complaints.

Good comedy is a confession of thought crime. If a joke doesn't offend anyone, it usually gets applause instead of laughter.

"One memorable image from the playoffs, this striking couple spotted courtside at a Lakers game. I'm not sure how this guy made his money, but I bet it has something to do with designing and building robot women".

I don't think Don Rickles would be cancelled today, he knew how to temper his abuse. He used his tongue like a $20 whore.

Norm McDonald's film Dirty Work is bust the gut funny...at the time, not many agreed with me.

Was a classic. RIP Norm!

Also, did any of you know that his brother is Neil Macdonald on the CBC?

Russell Peters does both now.
I really enjoyed Peters when he came on the scene, but after a few years he ran out of funny stories, mostly about his background and switched to the most profane comments of any comedian I have ever heard, terrible.
