The mass firings were idiotic. I mean, I'm not saying that job cuts weren't needed (I don't know if they were or not), but it was so blunt and ham-fisted that they slashed teams without truly understanding what they did, or why they were important. Then his ultimatum to the remaining workers about being "hardcore" or leave....why would anyone want to stay? Think of it this way: You're being asked to do the work of seven people, work stupid long hours and not see any increase in salary or benefits. Most of the people left behind cannot leave, they're on visas that say they would need to leave the country if they left Twitter...and they don't want to return to their homes.
So Twitter is puttering along with a skeleton crew. It has done some weird things, like on my mobile device the time line gets wonky in new and exciting ways all the time....But, will is it just days away from cascading failures? Who knows?
But, as I've said before, any reputation Musk had as a business genius has been destroyed by this three or four week period since he took over. Its been one misstep after another. A virtual master class in how not to run a business. Twitter was never super profitable at the best of times, but Musk seems to have done all he can to make it nearly worthless. If it continues, there will be a mass exodus of users to other services like Mastodon or what not, and he'll have burned $45B for nothing...
