So wrong.
155 millions americans on the platform. That’s just crazy. It’s becoming much more powerful then twitter.
Tiktok is by far the best, simplest and most addictive platform there is.
But it isn't a replacement for Twitter and what Twitter was doing.
Twitter was never the biggest platform - but it punched above its weight because you had politicians, journalists, experts in many fields, and "official" groups on there.
You could get explainers, you could get semi official statements, you could stumble across informed discussion.
I've never encountered that on TikTok. Lots of people are on it and it has fun videos and memes, but it doesn't have the same user base.
Of the main contenders, Bluesky so far seems to have done the best job of trying to make that mix of users come over in large enough numbers to get the network effects people want.
Mastadon seems too fractured and was too weird to join easily. (And they never explained their federation thing properly to most people.)
Spoutabile seems to have just imploded.
Post went right at the news people, but
just the news people, which wasn't really the whole mix and so seems to have failed to take off.
It may never happen anywhere because Twitter getting that userbase may have just been an accident of timing. Bluesky seems to have done a good job in its latest big expansion to make it "similar enough" that people find it easy and gotten a big chunk of the base to move at the same time, but it may just never happen.
