Jays-M's would probably outdraw Guardians/Rays. What are the NL matchups?
Phillies-Cardinals, which is attractive because 2 U.S. markets, and Pujols, and Mets-Padres, big market in New York. I’m sure MLB will prioritize those series over one with a Canadian team playing.

Mets is a big draw because NYC.

Toronto-Seattle are larger markets than Phil-St Louis. We'll see. Toronto's a big market area.

I’m sure MLB will give the Jays-Mariners games this weekend the least desirable time slot, whatever they think that is. So Friday they’ll definitely play in the afternoon, maybe the earliest time. Good luck watching if you’re at work.
Guaranteed. They always make all Jays games in the aft.

I think that Phillie is considered a major market, and St. Louis is a traditional old school market. Big in the mid-west and like someone said above, Albert.

I heard somewhere that MLB wants all playoff games to start at the same time, for eg. west coast games at 1:30pm and midwest and east coast games to start at 4:30pm or something to that effect.
I don't see that happening. Prior to the World Series, several different US stations/ networks usually air the early playoff rounds, (ESPN, TNT, etc). They don't mind some overlap between the end of one game and the start of the next when every team is playing, but they don't want to go head-to-head with each other, especially on weekends, when the competition has NCAA or NFL Football; both of those will have more viewers than the early rounds of Baseball playoffs.

20 million Canadians could watch the Jays, it doesn’t count in the all important Neilson ratings in the U.S. Advertisers on the game on the U.S. broadcast don’t reach Canadians watching on Sportsnet. The Jays are not a popular team among Americans.

Not all of them. When Seattle is the only west coast team playing, they won't want games starting in the morning for the Pacific time zone.
Good call. Friday and Saturday games will start at 4:07. If there’s a game 3 on Sunday, it will interfere with a lot of turkey dinners across Canada, lol.

Brad Zimmer needs one hit in five at-bats or less in game 2 to raise his batting average with the Blue Jays to .100!
We already have the Mendoza line (.200 average, named after Mario Mendoza), perhaps the Zimmer line will become part of baseball lore.

Otto Velez is back, he's been away much too long.
LOL, I thought of him also

Otto "The Swatto" Velez hit four home runs in a doubleheader against the Cleveland Indians, and this feat was notable in that Velez hit one of each possible home run in the doubleheader, that is, a solo, two-run, three-run home run as well as a grand slam, therefore "hitting for the cycle" in home runs

On December 31, 1988, Mario Lemieux scored five goals against the New Jersey Devils, one each at even strength, power-play, short-handed, penalty shot and empty net. That's more impressive that Valez.

When ex-Jay Jorge Orta played for the White Sox, on one occasion when he misplayed a fly ball into a triple, Harry Carey said "How the hell does a Mexican lose a ball in the sun?".

I'm happy we're playing vs. Seattle as opposed to Tampa Bay, who have been somewhat of a nemesis for us. Our guys should also be motivated since the last time they played the Mariners they got swept. Jays in 3.
After that I don't hold out much hope vs. Houston. But you never know.

Poor Mario Mendoza. Forever remembered for being a weak hitter. He actually ended up with a career average of .215 which is above the Mendoza line lol. I guess the difference between the Mendoza line and the Zimmer line is that the former applies to everyday players and the latter applies to all players, including bench players.

Dude came through! 1-4 in game 2 raised his Blue Jays batting average to .101!. He was also 4-16 as a Phillie between DFA stints.

This should help when he becomes arbitration eligible before next season.

I believe it was George Brett who coined the phrase "Mendoza line".

According to wikipedia, the phrase was first used informally by Tom Paciorek and Bruce Bochte, but made popular by Brett in an interview with Chris Berman.

Joey Gallo finished the regular season with a .199 career batting average, in 2,364 at-bats.

Here's my suggestion:

Why don't we start a petition to rename "The Mendoza Line" and call it "The Rougned Odor" line??!!
