Well it looks like we have our 5th starter. 3 years, $36M

Yusei Kikuchi Blue Jays deal (mlb.com)

So we have Gausman, Barrios, Ryu, Manoah and Kikuchi. With Stripling and Pearson in reserve and/or long relief.

Yimi Garcia and Romero on the back end. The bridge guys include Cimber, Richards, Borucki, Mayza and Merryweather.

There's 14.

Who else might be in contention?

I like t he Kikuchi signing. But I'm wondering if we don't know something, perhaps that something is wrong with Ryu? Or has management finally clued in that stocking arms is a good idea? Now work on the damn bullpen.

Kikuchi is too eratic to be a quality starter

he was an all star last year then tanked in second half

he will fight with Stripling and Pearson for number 5

also he is back up for injuries which always occurs in starters but jays should have done better

Freddie Freeman is now available, will not be signing with the Braves. Jays need to go all in.

From what I’ve been reading non vaccinated players will not be allowed across the border to play in Toronto.

That's ok. We had the disadvantage of not having our home field and living out of a suitcase for a large chunk of last season. I didn't hear Bret Boone lobbying the league on the Jays' behalf.

From Sid Seixeiro on BT: Jays are finalizing a deal to get platinum glove winner 3rd baseman Matt Chapman, finally an above avg. 3rd baseman as good as Donaldson was! He has home run power to boot.

Nobody cut the Jays a break period. The Jays upper brass on the were quoting as saying off the record "we don't give a fuck".

Okay so that means they're out on Freeman. The upside is he's 3 years younger.

I have to think Schwarber is now going to land in Toronto.

Freeman was not going to play 3rd.

FF could DH and spell Vlady at 1st. Assuming Vlady has told them that he's OK with that.

BTW, Chapman makes under $10M for each of the next 2 years.

Matt Chapman is the best defensive 3rd baseman in the league, and it’s not even really close. Barring injury, pencil him in for 35-40 homers. Now if Biggio can return to form, the Jays infield will be dynamite. And Espinal can be the super utility backup at 3rd, 2nd and short.

As it stands still a formidable offense:

1-Springer CF 40+ HR potential
2-Bichette SS 35 HR Potential
3-Guerrero Jr 1B or DH 50+ Hr potential
4-Hernandez RF 40 HR potential
5-Chapman 3B 35 HR potential
6-Gurriel Jr LF 30 HR potential
7-Biggio 2B 25 HR potential
8-DH
9-Kirk or Jansen Catcher 21 HR potential combined

MLB record for HRs in a season is 307. You're at 276 without a DH and bench. Who knows?
