The sponsors who are threatening to pull their sponsorships tell us that. They have a fiduciary responsibility to their shareholders to max out profits, so they follow the money. They know that by tacitly approving the Mailloux pick it would cost them more money than by taking a stance. They always follow the money which represents the majority of their market.

You don't have to agree with them, but that's the reality.
Withdrawing sponsorships at even the slightest wiff of problems is the safe way to go. After all you usually won't get in trouble for ending an agreement, that money can always be used to suck up to some other group. I don't think anyone would care to boycott a sponcer of the Habs for withdrawing their money... as long as they don't go to the Leafs.

Even if 1 percent were really upset and 90 percent were meh it's fine, I could see them bolting.

However it doesn't mean that kid deserves to be shunned. That is my point and my only point. Is shunning going to happen, apparently at least in the short run but it's an over reaction and they are being a bit inconsistent.

If you read Molson's letter, I think his measures are reasonable and are not shunning Mailloux. He just gets excluded from a few things that a rookie would normally look forward to as part of his indoctrination with his new team.

The problem is that he waited too long to make his statement and announcing those measures. If he had released it in the 1st 24 hours I suspect that the backlash from both the public and the sponsors would have been greatly mitigated. It would have shown more sincerity instead of a transparent attempt at cover your ass damage control only after seeing 5 days of criticism. As such, his attempt at taking the moral high ground failed and it became a bigger issue than it should have.

I mean everyone else who are going full Lord of the Flies on the guy.
Also sincerity, if you can fake that got it made. You are probably right, a quicker statement, brah, Rehab c'est Toi or whatever the french is.

That doesn't mean he won't end up playing pro in Europe or end up in the KHL.
I mean if he never plays in the NHL. 1: Montreal went through the shit storm for nothing and 2: People clutched their pearls for a dude that never played a game in the big league.
I guess he could go KHL. I doubt people there have any fucks to give. Which would also be rather amusing.

The Carolina Hurricanes have submitted an offer sheet for Jesperi Kotkaniemi in the amount of $ 6 million with a $ 20 signing bonus ( 20 being Sebastien Aho's number , whom the Canadiens offerred 2 yrs ago .

JK had 5 goals last year and 15 assists
The offer sheet to Kokaniemi from #GoCanesGo is a 1 year deal: Signing Bonus: $20 Base Salary: $6,100,015 Total Compensation: $6,100,035

This could be a lose / lose for both teams — certainly for the Habs it is.

Habs either overpay for JK and screw up their cap structure for this year and the future due to QO’s, or they essentially move him for a first pick that will be in the twenties.

I suspect the Canrs expect Bergevin to match , so they get a pound of flesh for Bergevin stupid offer two summers ago.

If the Habs do not match, Canes essentially pull a moderately risky trade which could well result in them not meeting thr Qualidying offer next year and letting him walk. At the same time you are still adding a legit player with upside so the cost of a mid late first is similar to a deadline deal. The fact that it is only a one year deal limits the exposure for Carolina.

I really like KK and think he will develop into a solid centreman - but feel the Hab's would be very ill advised to match the offer sheet. I can see Geoff Molson stepping in and reining in Bergevin on this.

Bergevin has shown real lack of judgement in a few moves and made an enemy of the Hurricanes owner with the Aho offer.

Old Irish proverb: "Don't fall in love with the help".

I hope the Habs don't match. They need some cap room for Suzuki next year.

They let by
Thankfully the Hab's do the right thing by not matching. I think KK has some potential but not worth anywhere near that kind of money even though it is only for a year and his next contract will be back to where it should be.
I suspect the habs tried to work on an extension framework with KK in the past week but it probably went nowhere.

I don’t think KK was fully happy in terms of his development and was also aware that he was being dangled.

Moving on was the right thing.
