GEOFF MOLSON ISSUES STATEMENT ADMITTING HABS ERRED IN SELECTING MAILLOUX

MONTREAL - Canadiens Owner, President and CEO, Geoff Molson, has issued the following letter on the team's decision to draft Logan Mailloux.
Message to everyone impacted by our decision:
I want to share with you my perspective on our decision to select Logan Mailloux in the 2021 NHL Draft. This decision, made in the context of the Draft, turned out to be instantaneously very offensive to many of you.
I understand that you expect more from us and we let you down. The Montreal Canadiens are more than a hockey team. Logan's actions do not reflect the values of our organization and I apologize for the pain this selection has caused.
First and foremost, regarding the young woman who is the victim, I want to say that we do not minimize what she has had to, and continues to have to, live through. No one, especially not an 18-year-old, should have to suffer through a traumatic experience like this. We are there to support her and her family and respect their privacy.
Our selection of Logan was never intended to be disrespectful towards her or her family, or more generally towards women or other victims of similar situations. Our decision was not intended, in any shape or form, to be an endorsement of the culture of violence against women.
Logan is a young man who committed a serious transgression. He is genuinely remorseful about the pain he has caused. He is committed to becoming a better person and we will work with him through this process.
At this stage, it is only our actions that will speak louder than our words.

1. Over the course of the next few months, we will develop in conjunction with local experts, a comprehensive plan to raise awareness and educate young men and young women about this serious issue. We will use our platform and our resources to turn a decision that hurt many people into one that brings meaningful and impactful change.
2. We will support and oversee Logan's commitment to becoming a better person.
3. We have asked Logan not to participate in our rookie or main training camp this fall. Being a player in the NHL is a privilege that is earned - not a right that is granted. As the year progresses, we will reassess Logan's readiness to be part of our organization.
We gave Logan a second chance but in doing so, we failed to properly assess the impact of our decision on the victim and on anyone who have suffered in similar circumstances. Once again, I want to apologize to everyone impacted by our decision.
I repeat, our actions will speak louder than our words. We will work to continue proving we are an organization this community and our fans can be proud of.
Lastly, I want to thank everyone that provided their feedback on this situation, including our partners and sponsors, so that this mistake becomes an opportunity to grow and raise awareness.

I am waiting for Oracle to:

1)question Molson's qualifications to have this opinion, which by the way is the same as Catherine Silverman a goaltending coach and analyst based in Phoenix. In addition to her work with InGoal Magazine and Elite Prospects, she has worked with the Arizona Coyotes Department of Hockey Development and The Athletic, focusing on both goaltending and youth hockey development.

2)speak on behalf of his little sidekick Turtle Boy who is afraid to debate.

What would Jean Beliveau say?

Sounds like the Habs are giving him a second chance but not right away, the kid has a lot of maturing to do. My speculation is that he won't make the NHL.

I think the Habs should fire Bergervin and hire Shack's girl Catherine Silverman as the new GM.......Lol.

I'm not sure that would pacify the twitter woke mob though......Maybe she could assist with coaching Carey Price et al.

Wait a minute that's what they have Sean Burke for.....Well she could pen a woke hit piece on why Burke is still employed in the NHL after his domestic assault charge when he was with Carolina. That toxic masculinity thing and all you know.

You have nothing to say to make your point. Your opinion is that of a tiny and shrinking minority.

I'm assuming that you're once again speaking for Turtle Boy as well or will he speak for himself?

Who's in who's head exactly,lol..........

As Dr.Phil is prone to say......It's okay to let go......
If you didn't know already, trying to engage him in intelligent debate/discussion is a slippery slope. I engage in dozens of interactions with intelligent and civil members (like yourself) of the Board every month. However, I do try to avoid him and his constant whining, nagging and ranting.

Right or wrong the Canadians are giving this kid a second chance. Justin has had more than enough chances to stop being a complete foul.
Everybody should just shut up and give the kid and the Habs time and space to work through his issue(s).

He admitted he made a mistake when he was 17. He was found guilty in a Swedish court and appropriately penalized. The lynch mob should let him get on with his career and life. Isn't that what we are doing with Auston?

Does that include Geoff Molson, Turtle Boy? Should he also shut up?

Unlike you, the owner of the team doesn't seem to think that it was a "gutsy" pick.

I suspect it would be interesting to hear your take on Molson admitting that they made a mistake. However, your past history indicates that you will simply turtle (unless somebody like Oracle speaks up for you first).

And for about the 10th time there is not one intelligent answer to legitimate questions.

You lost our debate once you questioned her expertise and I showed that she was hired by an NHL team. You resort to the traditional right wing response of, "I don't believe it if it doesn't fit my narrative". I asked you on what basis do you not believe it and you dodged the question. She worked in their development program. She had enough expertise for them.

Turtle Boy called the draft pick a gutsy move and everybody should shut up about. Yet the owner agrees that it was a major error and the team let down their fans. How do you and your sidekick reconcile this difference of opinion?

Vigorous debating is enlightening for all parties concerned. It is healthy. But it is only a healthy debate when facts are acknowledged and admitted into that debate. Opinions can differ, but one has to give reasons for that opinion. That is healthy, respectable debating. You deflect and deny facts and darts turtles. There is nothing to respect in either of those approaches as far as debates are concerned.

I hope you aren't getting too irritated or frustrated and that is why you can only post memes that have nothing to do with a supposed discussion.

So a guy does something. The Swedes who are a pretty feminist bunch give him a small fine, really a glorified slap on the wrist.
He comes back to Canada and some people are saying he must never work again and go on the dole. I mean why stop at hockey right, shun the non believer shuuuunnnn him.

Yet I am sure a lot of these are all for rehabilitating and not punishing murderers, robbers and rapists. Well maybe not rapists because they target women and women are special.

It's a load of bullshit. He pulled a youthful indiscretion, it didn't make it to the internet. He did his "punishment"

Meanwhile Trudeau paid a terrorist $10mm. Go figure.

Meanwhile, we are also told to never say anything about Karla Homolka who got a sweetheart deal from the NDP government. Go figure.

Because you gave up the debate and accept that Silverman has hockey culture cred and Geoff Molson is of the same opinion as she? Sure.

Just let go that you feel she doesn't have hockey expertise and cred.

That is definitely more convenient for you and your pet turtle than to actually engage in a discussion if it was a gutsy or gutless pick.

I understand your position.

The public, the media, the PM, the owner of the team and the money hungry sponsors all disagree. It was a bad move by Bergevin.

The public, you have a poll on that? Even so fuck the public. People are morons.
The PM hasn't resigned over him groping some chick nor his blackface so really his view on the topic is full of shit. For that matter I doubt the other people kicking up a stick are now refusing to support the Liberal party. Seriously, the PM, you don't see a problem with this? It's a bit like Trump slagging someone for being a liar.
The media shouldn't have a view, they should report the facts. They seem to be very focused on what various women think.
As for money hungry sponsors, again who gives a fuck what they think, they have no backbone, they are money hungry. Regardless of what they actually think, they will throw the kid under a bus to appear correct.

He did his time. All of the above in a similar context would say if you do your time you have paid your debt and it's time to reintegrate into society. Now weather you agree with that concept of you are of the opinion of throw away the key/turn criminals into soylent green, it is what they would claim to believe. Even the fucking Swedes say it was no big deal considering he only got a 1700 dollar fine. The Swedes didn't put him in Jail. They basically figured it was the equivalent of a massive speeding ticket.
He was a young offender. The man with general consensus generally agree with young people getting a second chance. He shared some photos he shouldn't have to a few people in private. He didn't shoot a man in Reno to watch him die. He didn't drug and rape women. He didn't try to exterminate a race. He didn't go to a Justin Beiber concert, and even if he did most of the people who would create a stink over this are the sorts who think such people once they are done paying their price paid their price.

It's just another story of people getting their panties in an uproar. Did he do wrong, sure but again FEMINIST SWEDEN didn't think it was a big deal and some judge over there presided over the trail with all the facts.

There is a whole lot of inconsistency on this.

Also I'd bet you dollars to donuts that this will all blow over by the fall, much like the outrage over sport strikes. People huff and puff but they will be back.

The sponsors who are threatening to pull their sponsorships tell us that. They have a fiduciary responsibility to their shareholders to max out profits, so they follow the money. They know that by tacitly approving the Mailloux pick it would cost them more money than by taking a stance. They always follow the money which represents the majority of their market.

You don't have to agree with them, but that's the reality.

The kid barely did anything wrong, it wasn't that serious...no assault or physical action...he did something immature...and holy fuck to the over reaction, I mean, the PM gets involved?
