A temporary setback.

Carey "Lounge Lizard" Price has a younger slightly more talented team than the workhorses Patrick Roy had with him 1993. There's no excuse for the Habs not winning their quarter century Cup.
Remember when a Montreal team would win the Stanley Cup every decade, at least once if not many times.
Pepperridge farms does.

On the slopes of Mount Parnassus, Greece
Vegas looked considerably bigger, tougher and faster last night.

And Fleury brought his ''A'' game.......Let's see if this continues.

Montreal controlled play for first 12 minutes or so ...it hurt them that they could not knock one in.

Really for the first 30 minutes of the game the level of the teams was fairly even with ups and downs and Vegas being more opportunistic. Vegas took a 3-1 lead while trending to control play starting at the beginning of the second.

And then the second half of the game was all Vegas. Not sure about last 10 minutes — went to sleep.

I don't think in Montreal's 7 game win streak they ever not have the lead.
What if Vegas sweeps Montreal who swept Jets who swept Edmonton.

Well if that happens the Habs will still have won 3 more playoff series in the last 2 years than those mighty Maple Leafs and I think it would mean Vegas is the Cup final wouldn't it?
Other than that it would not mean much.

It would mean they got lucky since they were one OT goal away from being ousted.

Time to think of a new scenario. (Meant to be a reply to the post you responded to, not your post NOS).

If the sweep had occurred it would have meant that the Leafs were nowhere near the elite of the league since they struggled to finish the same team (Habs) that an elite team swept.

But now that the Habs won a game you can think of something else.

What a game, going home with a split, perfect, GO HABS GO
Agreed. But, there's something weird happening. Defenseman Pietrangelo scores 2 goals as did Logan Stanley as did Jake Muzzin in a game.

This Montreal team is playing the Montreal system to almost perfection. Start with the goalie, then the defense and then the forwards. Of course, back in the 70's the Habs had 8-9 HOFers on the team. The current Habs has one sure fire future HOFer (Carey Price), not sure about any others.

The Montreal system to almost perfection? How is this series fixed?

If Vegas gets the first goal, the Habs are forced to open up, it's a game Vegas wants to play. If the Habs score first, they clog the neutral zone and wait for turn overs to counter attack.
