I am just going to go ahead and assume Montreal screws the pooch before the end, they did so too many times before, having great starts to seasons only to disappoint.

That way if I am wrong, I get a pleasant suprise and if I am right, my hopes don't get crushed because I had none.

I'm not sure if Tavares would have made enough of a difference, Montreal has captured lightening in a bottle.
We get stuck on defining a team by the "star" players they have, rather than how they're actually playing.
Leafs were outplayed and outcoached.
Montreal deserves this, they've got some really talented young players on the way up.
Colorado or Vegas in the next round. MTL is going to find itself in the deep end of the pool in round three for sure. Can Carey Price be the life jacket that floats them safely to the final? It's a pretty tall order, even for the second best Habs goalie ever.
Fun NHL Playoff Facts 2021 Edition

I just saw this posted on Twitter
"The Montreal Canadiens have won more playoff series in the last 5 days than the Maple Leafs have in the last 17 years"

The math is a little off - but only with respect to the number of days. The Hab's won Game 7 on May 31st against the Leafs and swept the Jets on June 7th - so a little more than 5 days.

For those who may think I am "gloating" or "rubbing it in" I don't really care. You are likely the ones who have dumped all over the Hab's for years and pumped up the tires of the Leafs only to see a complete reversal of fortunes in this year's playoffs.

Who knows what will happen in the next series, or next season, but the hockey gods are surely smiling down on the Hab's in these playoffs.
Excellent posts by Mellow, JW and North of Sixty.

First of all, the Habs have exceeded all expectations so far.

Beating the Jets in 4 games means the Habs get some well deserved rest before they start play in round 3.

Using 4 lines means the forwards are spreading out the workload. Of course, winning quickly in OT also helps to reduce the workload.

Looks like it’s going to be Vegas , they’re on a roll right now

and I agree that no one should count them out...Habs r fundamentally sound and play with a lot of discipline ... They closed out the Jets in 4 so they got grit and that killer instinct ( something the Leafs lacked) .... but having said that they’ve also had things go their way ... Leafs captain gets knocked out , Jets Scheifele gets suspended for the remainder of the series , and even now them getting valuable rest while their next opponent whoever that may be is going at it in a highly contested series .... in the end teams that go deep need some kind of luck but truth be told they seem like a well coached and prepared team ... preparation meets opportunity I guess and some good old chocking from the Leafs

This is interesting. None of Montreal's big (and they are big) four defensemen are home grown. They were all acquired from other NHL teams. They knock opposing players on their bum and play big minutes.

That's like saying that every American should cheer for America's team, the Cowboys.

My impression is that there are more Leaf fans around the country than for the Habs.
ugh,,, maybe,, but they are not playing anymore ..habs are in the semis

Which brings up Jose Theodore's Hart Trophy win. Was that legit? Was Iginla robbed?

Bring on the Golden Knights. It's good the Habs had a few days off. Hope Petry has recovered from that injury.

Since the Habs play all 4 lines, the average TOI per game per player is in the teens or even a bit lower.

A temporary setback.

Carey "Lounge Lizard" Price has a younger slightly more talented team than the workhorses Patrick Roy had with him 1993. There's no excuse for the Habs not winning their quarter century Cup.
