Non N95 masks work in that they stop the distance of spread when you exhale. Your outgoing breath kind of becomes muted. But it's true the virus itself can go thru a non-N95. Fortunately, I have a friend in construction who had lots of N95s pre-covid and gave me a few. I hardly go out other than for groceries get almost everything else on Amazon.

Now I have had two shots and am soon to start traveling at least to my hometown of Minneapolis probably in July. Obviously, Canada is still out of the picture.

This isn't news, he was going with the little data they had on the virus at the time and as it says in the article, on April 3rd, "The CDC recommended that people wear face coverings "in public settings when around people outside their household, especially when social distancing measures are difficult to maintain."
The changes were made as more information about COVID-19 became available during the pandemic. Fauci has since encouraged mask-wearing in line with the CDC advice."
It has been run into the ground for a year now.

Fauci (and you as well, probably) was wrong re the life saving effect of mask use from covid19 severe illness & death. The evidence that changed his opinion came out later. That evidence was revealed in the first half of 2020 when masks were recommended or even mandated widely globally & by the vast majority of health experts & nations on the planet.

Surgical masks are useless. N95 masks is whats needed

There is no evidence of transmission from free-floating viral particles. The transmission is from respiratory droplets and aerosols, the smallest of which are in the 5 um range.

...and surgical masks filter down to 1um.
