The rookie Kaprizov with Minnesota is already one of the most exciting players in the league. The Wild don’t get much attention, so it will take a while for his stardom to develop.

I vaguely remember when they first came out with the curve blade (Mikita?).

Now holes in the blade.

What next? Curved shafts, like my shovel?

"I did not come here for a rebuild. Go through what I did for 10 years in Ottawa. "We need to find a way to build with the core that we have. "I do think we have a good group of guys here."
~Erik Karlsson, San Jose Sharks

Erik played 9 years in Ottawa, was in the playoffs 5 of those 9 seasons, within a Game 7 O.T. goal of the Stanley Cup Final one year.

Jake is having a terrible year so far.
I heard that Jake DeBrusk is "trade bait".
So, trade him when his value is low?

"That's a bold strategy Cotton, let's see how it pays off...."

Even at DeBrusk's lowest value, it will still be higher than the player selected immediately before him, and the player selected immediately after him in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft.

Jake Gardiner (remember him?) placed on waivers.

Jack Eichel injured, out "indefinitely".

Jake Gardiner (remember him?) placed on waivers.
I thought the Hurricanes were such suckers for signing him, and especially for all that dough.
He was such a stud his first few years here, I thought he had a chance to develop into a Norris
quality defenceman, his game just fell apart.

He probably catches Dionne and Hull next season (2021-2022), early on. Maybe he even catches Jagr same season if he's really on fire, but more likely in 2022-23. Then, with a good season, he catches Howe in 2023-24. Then he'd need to average about 30 goals per season for the next three seasons to catch Wayne in 2026-27. A career that finishes potentially top three all-time is in the realm of possibility, assuming his body holds out and he can maintain some respectable level of performance across three more full seasons, including playoffs. Feels like a tall order though.

I think he can achieve your goals as long as he gets the games in...no more COVID lockdowns, no labour disputes, no major injuries.

10 points only btwn 1st and 6th?
1st place 30 games 19 wins 11 losses for 40 pts +23 goal differential
6th place 32 games 14 wins 18 losses for 30 pts -13 goal differential
It took 6th place Vancouver 32 games to get 30 pts. They have 24 games left but sure it's ONLY 10 pts behind 1st.
Let's put it another way, Leafs have only won 1 of their last 6 games and yet they are still in 1st place and 10 pts up on Vancouver.

Last 10 games Leafs 5-5-0 for 10pts
Wpg has the best last 10 game record of 6-3-1 for 13 pts.
Vancouver 6-4-0 last 10 games for 12 pts.
So the last 10 Wpg has made up 3 pts on the Leafs and Vancouver has made up 2 pts on Toronto.
Toronto has 26 games left in the season but sure it's ONLY 10 points.

Maths iz harde....

For Toronto to have <50% chance to make the playoffs?
9-15-2 or worse
For Calgary to have >50% chance to make the playoffs?
15-10-2 or better
For Vancouver to have >50% chance to make playoffs?
15-6-3 or better
For Ottawa to have >50% chance to make the playoffs?
18-2-4

Could these things happen?
Sure.
Likely?
Errr, no.

Boston is only 1 point ahead of 5th place Flyers.
This is the appropriate use of the term only.
They could very well miss the playoffs this year after winning the President's Trophy last year.
