LOL!!! Part of his schtick? Rush was the ultimate "happy warrior". He invented it. He was Goldwater with a sense of humor, he was a roasting Reagan. The main reason the Air America failed was that they attempted to imitate Rush with hate and anger, only. Rush never hid the fact, indeed openly stated it on his program, time after time, that his main job and his "secret" was to entertain and expose the absurdity of the political class. I see all kinds of critics, detractors and "media experts" opining on Rush. I'm yet to see people who actually listened to his show voice their opinions. Especially in here.
In many ways he set the placeholder for DJT. Conservative populism is the way forward, the RNC need to better embrace that.

Conservative populism is the ONLY way forward. Populism in general is the only way forward. It's when the voters are engaged and demand accountability, it is then that the country and its people prosper.

i want to call this out....and KDouglas is capable of defending himself.............but his posting history has no taint of racism...........right wing views yes..racism no...
Anyone who liked Rush Limbaugh is a racist. Just because they don't all openly toss the n-word around these days doesn't change that.

Populism is literally my favorite political science topic

Not all populism is bad, we often need it to hold politicians accountable, but the populist rhetoric we see, whether left wing or right wing, is nearly always anti-democratic and borderline, if not fully, facist.

Let me plug 2 of my favorite discussions on it, sorry they are audio/podcasts, I do prefer something with video but sadly these do not exist for these 2 discussions. They are a bit long, but totally worth the listen, and if people could chill on the ad hominem (me included, trolling is fun but so is actual debates) they could help guide a really great discussion.

Left-wing populism is fascistic and anti-democratic? Really? Please explain how Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren, Andrew Yang, "The Squad" or Justice Democrats in general fall into this categorization.

Populism simply means what the people want. Rightwing populism is insanity because Rightwingers are insane. Leftwing populism advocates for universal healthcare, $15 minimum wage, tax funded post-secondary education, ending big money in politics, ending 'too big to fail' policies, ending corporate tax loopholes, ending gerrymandering (enhancing the democratic process), ending redlining, ending wars, green energy, universal basic income, legalization of drugs, police reform, demilitarization. All policies that enhance societal wellbeing.

@ogibowtTHIS is an example of false equivalency.

Nah that would be the wallstreet tycoons who's asses you lick that pushed for too big to fail policies, the military industrial complex, and tax dodging elites. Leftist populism reigns in the most advanced and civilized countries like Scandinavia and New Zealand.
LOL!!!! The Wall Street and the MIC are even more prevalent among the Democrats than the Republicans. You're about a generation behind times.

Instead of spouting off at a socialist who would have agreed with you on most of what you just said, you could have asked since you clearly are not well versed on populism.

Anyone who actual studies populism would know fascist left wing populism exists, especially in South America. Think Peron in Argentina, Chavez in Velnazula, etc.

I'm literally a 3rd year political science major, wanna talk about logical fallacies? What you did is called a strawman argument. The fact of the matter is populists have been overwhelmingly anti democratic. And I personally wouldn't call the people you spoke of 100% populists... but they definitely use some populist rhetoric.

Now, let's try and get along, unless you wanna listen to the right go on about how the left eats itself.

Neither new Zealand nor Scandinavia have any serious left wing populist politicians. There are plenty of right wing populists in the latter though. I'm guessing you don't really understand what populism is, it's a tricky definition, but I can direct you towards some good academic articles if you would like! You need more than the US vs them rhetoric to be truly a populist or else nearly all politicians would be populists.

If you're a political science major get your money back, you clearly have not learned a thing. Fascism is historically a far right ideology, usually tied to ultra nationalism. Any cursory glance at history will bear this out. Presenting the South American exception as the rule is the strawman argument.

Democracy has never been respected in South America regardless of the political alignment of it's leaders. You'll be hard pressed to argue that Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren or 'The Squad fall into that categorization. You'll also be hard-pressed to argue that the majority of fascists historically were left-leaning.
