Yes. The law that dictated stores had to be closed on The Lord's Day, was flawed. Book stores were permitted to stay open, convenience stores stayed open, and a few others that were somehow different. Paul Magder sold fancy fur coats, so he got around the law by selling books for thousands of dollars, and then he threw in a complimentary fur coat with every transaction.Remember when malls and almost every retail store were closed on Sundays?!
Wasn't it an old city bylaw that they weren't allowed to open?

There was also a bowling alley in Dufferin Mall once upon a time.
I remember going to see the Toronto Baseball games with my dad down at the lakeshore and Bathurst street stadium. They would play double hitters on Sundays with the second game being only 7 innings and no new inning could start after 6 pm so people could still get home in time to go to church in the evening. That is why it was called Toronto The Good.Remember when malls and almost every retail store were closed on Sundays?!

That is why it was called Toronto The Good. Also women could not go to a pub by themselves. The bars had a separate entrance called Ladies And Escorts so girls could only get in with a guy.It was Ontario wide actually and it took until the 90s to get rid of that dumb law. One of the stores that got in a lot of trouble for defiantly opening on Sunday at the time was Paul Magder Furs on Spadina. He went bankrupt fighting the province.
I think the building is now a weed store.

you do know she's an old hag now don't youDid you ever try to contact her on Facebook?
The only video store I know of that's still around is Bay St. Video which must be at least 20 years old now. Streaming has eliminated the need for DVDs.Are there any Video 99 super stores left? Or any place that rents videos (Blockbuster, Rogers video etc).
Clairtone Electronics was founded by Peter Munk. He had his share (or maybe more than his share ) of hits and misses.Clairtone Electronics, made the best looking furniture style stereos then built the first Canadian made coloured T.Vs in Nova Scotia. Too bad that they were all crap.
