Well, yours didn't deserve a response but I'll provide you one anyway. There's a salary cap. By definition any team spending to the cap is giving out "fat" contracts. If you're referring to Leafs failing in allocation of funds given the cap that's a different discussion. Spezza was brought up which included his salary. In the same breath inferring everyone is coming to Leafs for fat contracts. Which clearly is incorrect. Spezza prime example of someone who came to Leafs and didn't get a fat contract ... not once but twice.
I've already given my view. It's unfortunate Leafs signed Tavares rather than a comparable top player RHD but Tavares was available at the time and a top RHD was not. They would have probably kept Kadri if that was the case. Tavares likely scewed the salary demands of Matthews, Nylander, and Marner. I see them as a much better team with a top RHD rather than Tavares and Kadri playing 2nd line with Marner. More balanced and a top D offers a lot more to the team. Imagine how the team would look if rather than Tavares Leafs had instead someone like Drew Doughty.
