All the healthy stuff is banned. Don't go to parks, don't get fresh air, don't go to a gym, don't get sunshine, don't socialize.

All the unhealthy stuff that weakens your immune system is ok. Stay locked in your home, order fast food tainted with covid because no employees are tested for covid nor do they wear PPE, breathe recycled air, don't be social, wipe down everything with sanitizers.

Big Pharma loves the foolish.
Do you wear a mask and gloves?

Toronto Western has 5 outbreaks to date on different departments requiring closure of departments and cancellations of elective surgeries and other treatments. They are empty by choice, and outbreaks not need. How about the healthcare workers in senior homes and their related outbreaks and deaths?

https://www.blogto.com/city/2020/05/toronto-hospital-declares-another-covid-19-outbreak/
The Government stopped all Ontario Hospitals from carrying out elective surgeries. Emergency surgery is permitted. The doctors have been asking Government to restart elective surgeries. If we thought wait times were bad before, they just got a lot worse. BC said it will take 2 years to clear the backlog created by the 2 month shut down.

This actually is a BIG problem. But unfortunately it is a problem that we have been forced to deal with. The thing about surgery is that it is often the end of the line even in elective cases. The problems of those patients whose cases have been cancelled has not disappeared.

This has been a big challenge for surgeons. Surgery is always about balancing risks vs benefits at its core. When you are delaying cases you are adding risk but doing cases during a pandemic also has associated risk. We dont even know the magnitude of either. Surgeons actually REALLY debated this topic locally and internationally. There was a KEY study published in lancet early one whose results have been duplicated that showed operating on people who are in the incubation period of the virus GREATLY magnifies their chance of not only being infected but getting a serious infection with HIGH mortality rates in the 20- 30% ranges. The reason is because surgery is the biggest stressor and inflmatory response inducer of the body. When you do that to someone you leave them WIDE open for the virus to go in and cause chaos.

The study is here https://www.thelancet.com/pdfs/journals/eclinm/PIIS2589-5370(20)30075-4.pdf

ANyways I am just trying to present to you the problems. We dont have a solution for this. Surgeons are analyzing things case by case. Its not like there is actually any limitation on surgeons. They can actually book any case they want, the surgeons themselves are putting a hold on it. Whats going on now though is that the backlog is getting to a point where we cant just resume business as usual. THere has to be some priority setting otherwise the loudest surgeons with the patients who have the biggest voice go first and that often are hip replacement patients LOL Another problem is surgeons are by nature very stubborn individuals lol I think in the aftermath when there are going to be top down directives there will be issues in adopting them

I would wager they would still be alive today if COVID was "only a flu".
The "it's not as bad as the flu" argument ship sank a long time ago, although it hasn't stopped some people from still proclaiming it's not as bad as the flu.

So why is it that some provinces are dragging their heels? Specifically, those on the east coast - I read today that Nova Scotia is the only province in Canada not to have announced a specific date for reopening their economy. This is even in light of the fact that they have fewer covid cases than Quebec and some other provinces that are raring to go...

All the healthy stuff is banned. ....
Because too many people are too stupid to do it safely. Also many people are too stupid to know that you can go to a park and go outside to get fresh air, you just can't use the equipment or have a picnic.

And hell, have you ever been to a gym? I'd rank them second to cruise ships as disease vectors.

Stuck in Lodi again
Maybe they should just reopen areas outside of places like Toronto that seem to be the problem. Kingston, Frontenac Lennox and Addington Health Unit which serves about 200k people has had only 60 cases (7 in the last month) and all have been resolved (no deaths). Does it really make sense to keep them in lockdown? What is the threat unless prople go there from from other parts of Ontario.

This thinking has been brought up in the daily questions to PM Ford. His response which I felt was fair, is there's no way to control/limit people travelling to those areas from Toronto. For example - say the government allowed certain types of businesses to open in the small towns and not in Toronto/GTA - good luck stopping Toronto folks from driving out there to visit them.

I'm currently up in an area that our entire county has had only 5 COVID-19 cases and the town nearby is still at 0 cases (reported) to date. That said everyone here is following the rules, masks on in the grocery stores (hand sanitizer sprayed on your hands before allowed entering the store), limit amount of carts (it's how they limit customers in the store, no cart, no go) and all aisle's are one way marked on the floor. All non-essential businesses are closed and yes even here we get lineups at the LCBO like everywhere else, lol.

Yes there is some logic at first glance to open outside of the more dense areas as you suggest but reality is it would simply cause a lot of additional travel from the dense areas to the less dense areas and create more virus spread.

We're all in this together. Let's hope we get to have some form of a limited summer as time goes on.

Yesterday in news. Texas sees 1,000 new coronavirus cases 5 days in a row after lifting some limitations. In FIVE DAYS, Texas which reopened saw 5000 new cases of covid virus.

Want to open up those shops in other small towns and cities without cases? People from the big city sees people where they can 'be free' without masks, without social distancing, without giving a damn about a small cough because the town's open for business because they had no cases and the big city covidoits so they can't be infected in some town without any cases. Remember there are reason people can't go to other town or cities, they have no reason to.
