I think there is a certain amount of mass hysteria going on here driven by the media, government bureaucrats and politicians.

To me, the case explaining the danger of corona virus has to be made mathematically in order to get some perspective; so, I'm going to do a little math to put things in clearer perspective.

I will change my mind if someone can make a mathematical case for why I should be completely losing my mind. There are a lot of things to be worried and concerned about in the world today; but, I'm not losing much sleep over Corona until someone makes a compelling mathematical argument about why I should be worried.

Like the lottery that many people base their retirement planning on, the math changes when you are one.

No need to lose your mind over it, nor worry.

Just accept that you really have no choice in most of this and the best you can do is wash your hands and stay away from getting too close to people.

Go ahead and lead the way.
I'm out every day working in an 'essential service' interacting with the public face to face. Maybe I have it already. No symptoms thus far. Not that I'd report it anyway, I won't be reduced to a statistic.

A great man once said 'there is nothing to fear but fear itself'. Another one named Elon Musk wrote that "Fear is the mind-killer" in a tweet several days ago.

Most people may curl up into a ball when the chips are down, but others will thrive in this new world of alienation and isolation.

I'm math guy too. Too lazy to explain. But take a look at Italy's rate of transmission infection for covid19 and the consequences that came along with it. That alone should scare you.
I hope nobody jumps into this thread and say more people are killed by cars and/or guns than by Covid-19.

Read somewhere that if one should die of Covid-19 it will only take 14 days to 30 days.

1/10 or 2/10 of people who get the coronavirus wind up going to a hospital for antibiotics or to be put on a respirator on an ICU bed.

The respirator keeps the patient alive while they inject those drugs and hope the body fights off the infection. You may die, make a full recovery, or recover while suffering permanent lung damage.

The whole point is to not get the coronavirus, and not spread it to infect others. Once you get this Covid-19 and need to go to a hospital, your chances of dying is about 1/10 or 2/10 from what I have read. Who needs the trouble.

Some expert on CNN last night said young people who smoke cigarettes, who smoke marijuana, or who vape are at greatest risk of being hospitalized

I was actually wondering about this and was just about to post the question of how many of the younger people (under 60) are smokers or vapers.

There are no substancial evidence that if you are a weed smoker you are endanger. What the experts say is that when you're down with the flu virus or any lung implicating virus, the last thing you want is to inhale hot smoke because it will complicate your health further. And also passing around a joint or bong is another danger to this. I would say, refrain from smoking right now...the problem is cigarette smokers can't help themselves...

My understanding is that for most of those that have died of COVID-19, they actually died within 7-10 days of infection. This infection can advance incredibly quickly in those with weak immune systems, or other significant underlying health conditions.

You're saying weed causes lung damage? I'm just talking about weed included in your post.
I'm saying someone who smokes cigs or weed heavily has reduced lung capacity. So if you throw a virus like Covid-19 that attacks the lungs on top of that, it makes it extra worse for pot or cig smokers.

Thats why its best to maybe stick to edibles until this thing blows over

Effect on lungs

Smoking decreases your lung capacity, which can cause a smaller volume of oxygen to reach the bloodstream, resulting in less oxygen getting to the blood. Smoking is in fact the single biggest cause of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) – a term covering for a number of conditions like emphysema and chronic bronchitis. The chemicals damage the airways and lungs which leads to the development of this long-term condition.

Takes your breath away

Smoking can literally take your breath away as it can, within seconds, cause a two- to three-fold increase in airway resistance. It can also cause chronic swelling of the mucous membranes of the airways, which adds to resistance. The tar in cigarette smoke also adds to airway resistance as it coats the lungs, reduces the elasticity of the air sacs and results in the absorption of less oxygen

Finally some good news. Potheads and cancer stick lovers can get an early start on emphysema.

At its current rate of infection (9% increase daily) half the world will be infected in about 100 days.
Half the world's population is 3.8 billion people.

It will actually be more than that because many infected people will never be tested. Especially in 3rd world countries
