If that's the case, the two of them should resign.
Being fired would be more humiliating, which is what they deserve.

They have cost and will continue to cost Rogers hundreds and hundreds of millions dollars for the sake of going on the cheap and wanting to create a team that was solely of their (egotistical) creation. They refused to build upon the winning culture that AA created. They have receded in each of the 3 years they have been here and hope to be competitive in 3 years, let alone be of winning calibre. So it takes only7 or 8 years to go from a game or two of the WS to getting back to the same position, all the while losing fans and megabucks. Hardly impressive.

Rogers brass should be looking at themselves then. They were the ones that bought into this sales pitch.

A couple of notes to point out.

1) If AA were still here, he might be in a mess as well. Tulo and Martin are his contracts. AA sold the farm knowing he was on the last year of his contract and had nothing to lose. So it's hard to say if things would have been any different.

2) You can't speculate on their success and predict the team won't be good for another "xyz" amount of years. Like AA, they may suddenly sign some big names and make some major moves to save their ass's. Only time will tell.

Absolutely, and since they are apparently good business people, hopefully they will learn from this mistake.

Possibly.

However, he developed a good scouting and development system. The farm is a renewable resource. 3 or 4 years to replenish. It has been 3 years since he was gone. I also think he would have made a stronger effort to keep the team competitive (and the Dome filled) than shapeero.

2) You can't speculate on their success and predict the team won't be good for another "xyz" amount of years. Like AA, they may suddenly sign some big names and make some major moves to save their ass's. Only time will tell.
I was basing that time frame on 1)the fact shapeero has been here 3 years and 2) Atkins said it will be 3 more years before they are competitive. That is 6 years there. I added a year or two assuming that everything does not shake out exactly as they have planned.

The Jays no longer have a starting rotation that can play in the major leagues. Who saw THAT coming? And how long is it going to last?
Starting pitching is in deep doo doo! Happ was it. Stroman is not and will not be the ace he once was projected to be. Sanchez is heading for the bullpen. Can't seem to get more than 3 innings from him before he implodes. Reid-Foley looked good yesterday, but that is the first time in 3 outings and it was against the Marlins in a spacious park. Gaviglio is nothing special. Borucki has been the most consistent to date but doubt he is much better than a #4 or #5 starter, assuming he learns how to hold runners. Estrada is really inconsistent and is a UFA.

This team needs help! A new management team would be a good start!

Stroman and Sanchez I believe will turn it around under a better coaching/manager staff.
So that gives us 2 quality 1-2 starters. Then we need a 3, 4 and 5.
Borucki I agree might turn into a 4 or 5.
So basically we need 2 more quality starting pitchers

Phil, Any chance that Shatkins will trade either or both? They were here when those duffuses arrived and doubt there is any loyalty there.

Make no mistake this is on Rogers. They got greedy. Instead of rewarding the guy who was responsible for success the Jays had not seen in 20 years they created an environment that forced him to leave....

On a different note, I guarantee you that AA would have given up more for JD but Shapeero wanted to appease his former employer. There have been rumours for weeks leading up to this trade that the Braves were interested. The Braves also have an abundance of riches when it comes to their farm system.

Don't think Rogers will fire both Shapeero and Atkins because that would be the sensible thing to do. Rogers with their monopoly has never really been held accountable for their decision-making.

If Shitpiro does that we'll have almost no quality starters left for next year and probably finish in last place 50 games out.
Also, you wont get much back for Sanchez/Stro right now given the shitty years they had.

Smartest option is to keep them and hope they return to form next year.

My (not so) expert opinion of course

I think you may have meant "gotten more" for JD., but either way I do not think that is true.

I do not think the market for JD was that great and they got whatever they felt was the best offer made to them. I cannot see any organization settling for "less" on any deal.

Agree. JD is "damaged goods" who may never play at his old level - or at all in MLB. As well, rumours are that he was a PITA in the club house. Fine if he's the league MVP and the team is crushing opposition. Nasty if he's a marginal participant on a shitty team.

Rumour has it the player to be named later in the Josh Donaldson trade is P Julian Mayweather.

Typo. Its Julian Merryweather.

Mark Feinsand of MLB.com reports that the player to be named later must be sent to the Blue Jays by January 30th of next year (2019), with several sources, including Steve Phillips of TSN, suggesting that the value of the PTBNL will be based on Donaldson’s health and how much he actually contributes to his new club.

RHP Julian Merryweather, 26, was ranked as Cleveland’s #12 prospect in 2017 on MLB Pipeline’s list and has been sidelined since March after undergoing Tommy John surgery.

Not a typo, but I thank you for the polite correction, it was stupidity!

That's why Oakland shipped him out. I know he had issues with management, and possibly with teammates as well. Oakland knew they were getting a bad deal with Lawrie going the other way, but they wanted JD out.

Indians had put JD on a 10-day DL. That means he will miss the Jays series in TO on Thursday. Other interesting news, Shapiro's name has been out there to take the same title with the Mets. Please Rogers let him go! LOL
