Anyone have any theories as to why Stro is sucking so bad this year??
Is it just the blisters, or something else??

Stro 2017: https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/s/stromma01.shtml (13-9, 3.09 ERA - voted 8th in Cy Young award)
Stro 2018: https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/s/stromma01.shtml (4-9, 5:54 ERA)
His fastball tops out at 93 - which is not formidable and I think hitters are comfortable hitting at that speed...especially if it has no movement. And just a hunch his body language tips some pitches.

he aint fooling anybody any more and his attitude is not the best. New manager and pitching coach in 2019 need to take him behind the woodshed for a good talking to.

I see Kevin Pillar is nominated for the Clemente award for community service. Well he hasn't called anybody a faggot this year (but when he did last year, it showed his character). I think Kevin is all about Kevin. I think Pillar is badly overrated. He is going to be a .250 hitter, who doesnt walk much and below average power. His occasional spectacular catch is what centerfielders do, his arm has improved but not great. Bill James used to talk about the type of player just good enough to stay in your line up..and prevent some one else from emerging....and not good enough to get you to a championship.

I noticed that too. He reared back and tried to fire his hardest last night, and it only topped out at 93.
Thats batting practice speed for most MLB hitters.

So what changed then?? I think last year he had a pretty hard sinker that topped at around 95 or 96.
So either he's hurt or something. 27-year-olds like him dont just lose their stuff like that overnight

Shoulder strain. He's not going to fall off this much just because hitters have figured him out. Hitters figure out the new pitchers within a couple of starts when they first come to the league.

Could be an issue w mechanics if he is compensating for some physical problems. Hopefully he and Sanchez and Estrada can find a way back.

My guess it is that he is not back to 100% from a health perspective, hence the loss of speed on the fastball. I have not watched a lot of his starts this year but I do remember that he had a lot of movement on his pitches and he generally got batters to hit grounders. Not too sure if this has been the case this year, if not, that may help fill out the story.

Sanchez is a mystery as he has the size to be a real stud. Remember in the early years they monitored the number of innings he pitched - So much for that strategy.

I think Estrada may be done. He had a good couple of years though and at times, was one of the most reliable pitchers in the game.

Wow! How things can change in 3 - 4 years.

Based on seeing how bad his blister was, yeah, it was pretty bad. Basically a dime-sized piece of skin peeled off.

If both Sanchez and Stroman fail to become the Ace or #2 pieces next year, this rebuild is going to take much longer than I thought.

Why have blisters become the new epidemic for pitchers? Can it be anything other than the ball? New fangled grips? Or, perhaps, balls?

All of the Bluejay fans out there better get used to mediocrity for the next 4 to 5 years or maybe longer.
ENJOY!

Hopefully we do not enter a black hole like we did from '94 to '15. Teased, but never got over the hump.

take comfort in this...baseball is a great game with many things to be interested in - enjoy going to the games or watching on tv...only 30 cities have a major league team, and Toronto is one of them

Toronto has a major league franchise, not sure I would class this group as a major league team!

Agreed.

All you have to do is stop caring who wins. Just so long as you see some great skills and performances on both sides of the ball. Like ballet. Or circus.

The controversy is that the pitchers are saying balls now are rougher. MLB denies this of course.

Estrada's woes are generally related to his back problems. When his back is fucked, his pitching is shit - which is understandable.

When his back recovers, the old Estrada of 2015 is back.

I'm the one who started the gay Sanchez angle but I didn't do it out of malice. When I said that Sanchez has the face that launched a thousand gays ship - it was a joke.

They Jays may have gotten some good luck albeit from a tragic event. Rowdy Tellez had his first ML hit on the first pitch he got. Why his hitting fell off was a mystery to me. Now we know, his mother was fighting terminal brain cancer. She died on August 11. Since then he's been getting back to the power form he showed early on. He was so overcome with emotion that he could barely speak when Hazel Mae attempted an interview.
