Possibly, except for one problem - the people are stupid. Four decades of public education cuts and the folks get dumb. They want universal health care without paying taxes.
Why do you say that? People in Canada and the rest of the civilized world are happy to pay for Universal Health Care.

In my many years in Canada, I have not heard a single person arguing that we should scrap universal health care.

Anything which starts with lets repeal and then ... will never get bipartisan support. If it starts with lets tray and fix the ACA I think the Dems will join in. Whether or not a deal can be made is a different story.
Fix what? According to the Democrats the ACA was a good legislative effort and a great achievement- shoved past the Congress on the strength of the Democratic super majority. Why would the new Republican majority want to expand the political capital in helping Democrats save the obviously flawed piece of legislation? Especially since the very opposition to the ACA propelled them into power. Were the Republicans to attempt fix the Obama Care, the Republican voters and Independents would, at best, splinter the party into pieces.

I'm referring to Americans.
So am I. Why would you think that Americans fail to understand that Universal Health Care has to be paid via taxes?

The government can just print more money,...

A surprising number of Canadians don't understand that,...so why wouldn't a comparable % of Americans.

Maybe too many Americans think of that proverbial dirty word when trying to understand the concept - communism.

The less dramatic think - socialism

I don't think so. I have never heard that. Do you have any data?

PS: The American Government can just print more money. The Canadian Government can not.

So let me get this straight. The GOP control the House, Senate and the WH and they can't repeal Obamacare?
The one main thing that they had been threatening for 7 long years?

The problems were created by the Republicans, but what got passed was still much better than what was before, which is why the ACA is so much more popular than repeal.

That said it's got lots of room for improvement and moderate Republicans working together with right leaning Democrats could do a lot of good if they ditch that mindless partisan McConnell and start working together.

Because they're afraid — and rightly so — that it would cost them seats in 2018, and more seats and the White House in 2020. What they campaigned on was "Repeal ObamaCare, and replace it".

They have yet to realize establishing good healthcare for everyone is a Good Thing, that would earn them the votes next time, that they only got by subterfuge in 2016

Yup. Just like in California where the Dems have a Super Majority and the governorship. And a bill that past the Senate for Single payer healthcare and the Dems administratively killed it.

Of course the fact that the new California Dem Chair is a big Pharma lobbyist and that donations to the party from pharma has doubled in the last ten years have nothing to do with it.

I mean they tried this with a bill ten years ago and it was Killed by the governor then.

Both parties are in big Medical's pocket. Neither will give up the money to put in single payer or anything resembling a good system for the American public.

It's all lip service.

Obama is an intelligent and thoughtful politician. He realized that even a flawed step in the direction of Universal Healthcare would be impossible to reverse, and inevitably would lead to the only practical solution, namely the Universal Health Care that the majority of the population wants

To erase anything Obama from history.

My hunch is that The Don was so humiliated by Obama at that event with the press a few years back.

A few states like Vermont and California wanted to pass healthcare for all within the state, but those fizzled out when they calculated the cost and realized how much they would have to raise taxes and that nobody would vote for it

That is a myth created by those who are philosophically opposed. Canada delivers superior outcomes at much less cost as do Britain and many countries.

No they were seriously considering it and did the math and concluded it wouldn't work given the current costs in the USA

It works in other countries because healthcare already costs less, so spreading the cost around to all citizens requires less taxation than it would in the USA.

Also, their populations are smaller and their people are healthier

Maybe if the USA did healthcare for all 100 years ago and stuck with it, we would be in a better position today

But to transition into it now will be ludicrously expensive

As originally conceived The Affordable Health Care Act would have given Americans better health care than what we have in Canada. But President Obama compromised for the sake of votes, he gave too much power back to the HMO's and the pharmaceuticals. It didn't do him any good, the Democrats got trounced in the 2010 Midterms over socialist death bureau medicine.

Now it's even worse with the current dunderhead allowing it to collapse. All because he got ridiculed at the WH Press Dinner and wants revenge on "that Muslim nigger".

Other countries have healthier populations because they have Universal Health Care.

Your argument that it cannot work in USA because the population is larger is at best misguided. This US Exceptionalism does not apply for health.

Yes and if the US transitions into UHC from its current state of being unhealthy costs will ridiculously high
Not a good argument. Clearly you should want a healthy population. All other developed and many developing countries have made the transition. USA is not a poor, undeveloped country.
