Sources stating the Jays have informed EE's agent they are not going to make any more offers and are moving on.

Benoit to the Phillies in a 1 year, 7.5 million dollar deal . Big bucks for a 39 year old who excelled with the Jays after being mediocre with Seattle

Smoak is a genuine 300 hitter........150 right handed, 150 left handed............I tell people that me and my brother could throw 90 miles an hour as teen agers...he could throw 45 and I could throw 45

Those 24 innings with Seattle were his only mediocore pitching in the past 7 years. He still had an overall ERA of 2.81 last year which is in line what he has done in the past.

His ERA moving from 2016 to 2010:
2.81
2.34
1.49
2.01
3.68
2.95
1.34

Sure he is old but it is a one year contract for a reason.

Sounds like a very nice one year deal for the Phillies. Would have preferred Benoit at that cost instead of a few million less for Grilli.

EDIT - I see Grilli is 3.0 million vs 7.5 million (so they are not that comparable contracts)

I was hoping Benoit would be back. He did a great job for the Jays until he got injured. I have no idea if he was contacted by the Jays and if so, what he was offered. Think he did real well!
The Jays have a lot of replacing to do as it looks like the free agents are looking elsewhere.
I like the signings of Pearce and Morales but they need to replace a lot of home runs if Bautista EE and Saunders all move. Bullpen, which sucked until the trade deadline has lost two nice pieces.
Outfield far from stellar at this point, need a back up catcher and the bullpen needs help. Be interesting to see what they do

Pearce is a what has become known as a super sub. A Zobrist or Holt type. It's good for a team to have one. More at bats tend to make them better and a few extra days off for regulars can work wonders as well.

Another good signing. We still need a lefty out of the bullpen(i think we won't find one as the market is thin) and a speedy outfielder, but prefer lefty bat.

Somewhere but not here.
Right now there are 14 position players plus you need a backup catcher. At best 13 make this team opening day. At least 2 of these need to move along. Not sure if Pompey or Goins have options left making it a bit easier. Some are cheap so easier to release - Upton or Zeke, Barney or Goins. Of course they could trade or find a sucker to take on Smuck.

Starters: 1B Smoak/Pearce, 2B Travis, SS Tulo, 3B Donaldson, C Martin, DH Morales, OF Pillar, Zeke, Upton
Bench: Goins, Barney, Pompey, Catcher#2, Smoak/Pearce.

Things change quick so it will be interesting. Can't see how either EE or JB can fit in and assuming both are going elsewhere.

Shit! Red Sox are nearing a trade for Chris Sale . 4 top prospects going the other way.

If it goes through they'll be the AL east favorites.
Starting pitching was a huge problem for the Bosox this season.

Back to square one for the Jays. Load up on the RH batters again! Need to counter attacks on the Sox LHP with Price and now,Sale!

Would it make sense for the Jays to pursue Carlos Gonzalez of the Rockies? After all,he and Tulo were team mates in COL.
The Yankees could be the next team from the ALE to make a big splash type of moves right after Bosox. I guess.

Huge problem? They were 3rd in the AL in Starter ERA, Whip, OPS against and 4th in KO/BB, and K/9 and had the AL Cy Young award winner.

Price had a horrible first half.
Wright was excellent then got injured after the all-star break.
Clay Bucholz was so bad they sent him to the pen.
Their youngster Eduardo Rodriquez struggled with 1.30 WHIP and ERA nearly 5.00
They traded one of the best prospects in baseball for Pomeranz, who gave them 5 quality starts in 13 outings. Then had to be shut down due to arm issues

Porcello was their only consistent starter all year. I would call this a serious problem for a contending team

If it wasn't for their league leading offense they probably would've missed the playoffs.

Colabella opts for free agency.
Good luck to him.

I always wonder, who will be the first to succeed in their respective quest.

Colabello and why he failed the tests or O.J. and who killed Nicole?

Red Sox get Sale.

Jays might still get Bautista. I really hope Jose finishes his career in Toronto.

Have to love an adult who goes with the "It was my dog's fault" excuse.

So the Jays signed utility man Steve Pearce to a 2 year, $12.5 million deal yesterday. That effectively ends the Encarnacion era with the Jays. Too bad Edwin turned down a fair offer by the Jays of four years, $80 million a month ago. He will likely have to sign for less than that now.

The prospect of a Steve Pearce/Justin Smoak platoon at 1st base doesn't enthrall me.

Equally unimpressive is that the Jays give Pearce $6.25 million for 2017 and 2018, despite him being 33 years old and coming off a surgery that may prevent Pearce for being ready for spring training.

And, remembering that Pearce was claimed off waivers by the Jays in 2014 when Baltimore wanted to demote him to their minor-league team; Pearce decided to pass on the option of playing MLB in Toronto and accepted a demotion to the minors with Baltimore instead.

Gotta wonder why the Jays' brass would reward a player that snubbed their organization, the city of Toronto and Blue Jay fans two years ago. Clearly Pearce is coming just for the money and has no interest in being in Toronto otherwise.

Total slap in the face to loyal Jays fans that have packed Rogers Centre in the past two seasons. We deserve better...
