Apparently Jose Bautista is open to a 1 year deal with the Jays, provided the offer is higher than the qualifying offer. Doesn't say how much higher, just "higher".
So I guess it is Shapiro's turn to shit or get off the pot. He has options, say 1 year @ 18 million. He can add an option year, player and/ or team, he can add incentives, or he can pass. So far this year it looks as if they are more concerned with cutting costs than they are with winning.
He has the starting pitching and a decent defensive infield, so as long as no one hits the long term DL they may hang around for part of the year. At the moment this is not a playoff team! Can they add enough quality players without adding a lot to the payroll, to make the team competitive, wait and see.
