They are rivals with Edmonton and Buffalo for the Matthews sweepstakes.Well, the Leafs will not be a rival to anybody for at least the next two seasons.

According to which people? I'd say teammates would be the best judge. Has anybody spoken out?terrible captain
Your welcome, with the help of our GM Jim Rutherford. I'm surprised he didn't send Crosby and Malkin while retaining all their salaries in for Kessell. Damn man this is like my third negative comment today about my team...Shanahan got rid of kessel phaneuf and clarkson
Make him executive of the year for the next 10 years
Neither did baseball until Los Angeles Dodgers signed Zack Greinke with a out clause....there is always a first for hockey. It would have to be discussed between the NHLPA and the NHL, perhaps in the next CBA talks.NHL contracts don't have "out clauses".
So you're thinking Stamkos should sign a contract contrary to the CBA, hoping that it will not contravene a future CBA?Neither did baseball until Los Angeles Dodgers signed Zack Greinke with a out clause....there is always a first for hockey. Ummm.... Baseball has always had out clauses and they are permitted. Remember AJ Burnett?Neither did baseball until Los Angeles Dodgers signed Zack Greinke with a out clause....there is always a first for hockey. And they will be simply matched.Never mind the Leafs can try in 2018.
I'm sorry if my post came across as Stamkos signing a contract contrary to the CBA that wasn't my intention and after reading it I undrerstand how you would come to that conclusion. I was simply stating that maybe the out clause should be discussed at the next CBA talks. So you're thinking Stamkos should sign a contract contrary to the CBA, hoping that it will not contravene a future CBA?
Gotcha.
As for the out clause I forgot about Alex Rodriguez who started the opt-out trend with his monster free agent deal with the Rangers in December 2000,Ummm.... Baseball has always had out clauses and they are permitted. Remember AJ Burnett?
Out clauses are not permitted under the current Hockey CBA. And you can't sign a contract with one now hoping it will change. The contact would be invalid and not registered with the league.
I think it is much harder to have an out clause in hockey than baseball because of the cap. I know there is some formula to determine how much towards the cap a contract counts so that if there was an opt out and the contract not fully completed, then the calculations for the previous years would most likely now be incorrect. I suspect it would be possible to have a scenario whereby a contract ends early and if there is a recalculation a team may have been over the salary cap. And what if they'd won the Cup under that situation?I'm sorry if my post came across as Stamkos signing a contract contrary to the CBA that wasn't my intention and after reading it I undrerstand how you would come to that conclusion. Babcock will take all the whipping. Now that Phaneuf is no longer a leaf who will be the next Leafs media whipping boy.....paging Nazem Kadri!
Good force Edmonton to match. And they will be simply matched.
They do it's call revenue sharing, If a team goes over the budget then they have to pay a luxury tax to small market teams.I think it is much harder to have an out clause in hockey than baseball because of the cap. It doesn't matter in baseball. No cap.
I think the NHL should do away with the cap and do what MLB does with the Luxury tax. They do it's call revenue sharing, If a team goes over the budget then they have to pay a luxury tax to small market teams.
The Yankees paid enough tax to pay for the entire Milwaukee Brewers pay roll.
But I don't believe there is any such provision in the NHL.They do it's call revenue sharing, If a team goes over the budget then they have to pay a luxury tax to small market teams.
