Osuna the Assassin strikes again. That is what I have begun calling Osuna for about two weeks now, he is so cool under pressure.

I was gonna start posting more frequently once they got into the 20's in response to an earlier comment on my countdown.

Thanks for agreeing with what I've said all along.

Competitive teams/meaningful games are the single most important factor in creating atmosphere.

The only two parks that are unique, and it's only because they are ancient relics, are Fenway and Wrigley. Yankee stadium and Camden etc. are no different than Toronto when fielding a loser. I've seen it first hand.
I've never argued that a first place team would put ass's in the seats and it would have an electric atmosphere when they place is full, my argument all along that was basically if the team sucks, you have to give fans another reason to want to come to the park, and it has to be the park itself.

Anyway, we'll agree to disagree. You keep loving your rogers centre as a real gem of ball park, and I'll continue to be jealous of the likes of PNC park, Camden yards, Wrigley, fenway, petco, and AT&T

I never said that. I was saying that your loathing of the ballpark's atmosphere was mainly because of the team's performance. You are entitled to dislike it. It is your personal opinion.

I won't bring it up again if you don't.

The Red Sox occupy the same status in Boston as the Leafs do in Toronto - sort of a civic mascot. Boston is the ultimate baseball city. And both Fenway and Wrigley are now as much tourist attractions as functioning ball parks.

Most baseball teams draw well when they win and poorly when they lose. In fact, the Jays consistently drew better than most losing teams.

It's been used before but it applies: they should consider renaming the Rogers Center to the Theater of Pain.

BBL you're slightly off. The five most populous cities in North America.

1. Mexico City
2. Los Angeles
3. New York
4. Houston
5. Toronto

If you search urban area, instead of what is a legally constituted city, it should read NYC, LA, Chicago and then TO. Mexico City is culturally and linguistically not really part of North America.

Is Roberto Osuna actually 20?
Funny thing is I was asking myself the same question last night. This narrative is something you see only in legends and Hollywood movies... more power to him!

At this stage of the season I think El Chico is a lock for rookie of the year... maybe of the decade! :thumb:

I did say several weeks ago that, to me, El Chico seemed to be another Mariano Rivera in the making!

...he can't find decent Mexican food in Toronto. He doesn't like sushi... for a young man raised on ceviche, sushi must be baby food to him. And I've yet to find a good ceviche place in Toronto.
Don't even compare sushi with ceviche. The only thing they have in common is that both begin with impeccably fresh fish.

As for where to find good ceviche in Toronto, the only place I know is my own kitchen... when the mood strikes me and I can find very fresh red snapper or previously unfrozen Chilean bass... though fresh shrimp or scallops are just as good.

I'm not sure having Revere as lead-off is an option. Gibby's game plan makes sense, allow the sluggers to have a good look at the opposing pitcher let the bottom of the order get on base and rough him up the second time around.
I don't think who bats leadoff is quite as important in the American league as it may be in the National.

It is really a factor only in the first at bat of a game... after that, I prefer speed and on base percentages in the 7th, 8th and 9th hitters so that you turn over the lineup and get the power bats to drive them in.

With the BJ's right now, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it"... though a famous cybernetician I knew use to say "if it ain't broke, break it; if it's broken, don't fix it, replace it." :D

And I agree with you about Archer, except that I think he is only #2 to Price.

About stadiums and parks...I go to baseball games cuz I love baseball, and I went to more than 40 Jays games a year in many years where they didn't stand a chance of making the playoffs.

I have also been to games in Boston, New York, Pittsburgh, Cincinnati, Detroit (both Comerica and Tiger Stadium), Texas and Cleveland and Montreal (Jarry and Olympic). I have also been to White Sox Park or whatever they are calling it these days.

Something to say for all those places and with the roof open, the Rogers Center can be pretty good (closed yuck)....In all cases though - baseball was the key.

The one shrine or baseball heaven is Wrigley Field.....you see grown men with tears in their eyes singing take me out to the ball game...a perfect looking setting (and really good for girl watching too). The Cubs are perennial also rans...as harry caray once said "any franchise can have a bad century". However, the charged atmosphere when the Cubs were a few outs away from going to the WS in 2003 probably would have topped any atmosphere....and they wanted to kill that kid who interfered with the foul ball (a negative commentary on over zealous fans).

Second place goes to Old Tiger Stadium

The only way Osuna wont be rookie of the year is he wont have enough saves. When the Jays score so many runs he doesnt get credit for a save. I think its 4 or more run lead and the closer doesnt get credit. Its a shame though because he is great

...and, btw, the roster as of today minus Carrera and plus Stroman is the roster that will go to the post season... unless Travis can make it back and, in that case, minus Pennington.

And who will be the September call-ups? I think Delabar, Loup, Tepera, Thole, Hague, Kawaski, Pompey and, maybe, Jimenez.

Edwin. 3 run shot.

Great start. Far from over.

Pure joy watching this team. It's like seeing your children succeed.

EE = MVP.

He gave a rare interview to the Toronto Star and was asked if he felt overlooked. His reply: "I don't care, wins matter not numbers".

His promotional video for the Jays Snow Day was priceless. The most intimidating hitter in baseball is also one of the most animated. I suspect he wouldn't enjoy Toronto in January.
