At that time Pat Gillick didn't have the power to swing such a trade, he was Director of Player Personnel. Bill Singer was long past his glory days with the LA Dodgers, he got a World Series ring but didn't get to pitch in either 65 or 66. He lost out to Claude Osteeen in the rotation.Jays almost had a great trade prior to the start of the 1977 season.
Louisiana Lightning Ron Guidry (170 career wins) for Bill Singer was a deal negotiated by Pat Gillick; but, the deal was vetoed by rocket surgeon President Peter Bavasi who was pushed out the door soon enough.
Singer went on to get 2 career wins after the almost trade.
My nomination for most lopsided trade is Jose Bautista for Robinzon Diaz. Diaz was a catching prospect, I think, who had all of 1 major league home run in his career (139 AB). We did pretty well on that one.Getting Donaldson makes me think what the greatest trades have been in Toronto history.
The two that come to mind are getting Donaldson and getting Doug Gilmour. Are there any others that would rank up there?
Who did we trade to get Edwin? My nomination for most lopsided trade is Jose Bautista for Robinzon Diaz. Diaz was a catching prospect, I think, who had all of 1 major league home run in his career (139 AB). We did pretty well on that one.
That's the thing. There are many trades like that we don't remember, or aren't as well known because the players weren't such big names at the time. The Brett Lawrie for Josh Donaldson trade is very polarized because both players were somewhat popular and already established, with both players still having lots of upside left. Turns out Donaldson had tons of upside....lol. One might say MVP upside...lol.My nomination for most lopsided trade is Jose Bautista for Robinzon Diaz. The Angels have one Mexican in their bullpen: Fernando Salas, 1 Venezuelan, 5 Americans.Angels don't impress me at all....a bunch of Mexican guys in their bullpen, .
That's a good thing, why are you saying sorry (for this)?Sorry Costanza, but Cola scouped up every ground ball at 1B tonight
Whether in or out of it, teams are always expected to field and try their best against contenders. Will they be eliminated at that point and be fielding prospects?
Just don't expect them to dive into the stands to make catches or run hard to first base on a ground out. Or play hard.Whether in or out of it, teams are always expected to field and try their best against contenders.
It is a matter of the game's integrity!

The one weak spot in our current batting order is the shortstop. He is almost an automatic out.
I have no worries about Tulo, other than staying healthy. I expect you will be singing a different tune in a couple of weeks. The one weak spot in our current batting order is the shortstop. He is almost an automatic out.
