If memory serves me right, the historical record of free agent or re-signed free agent pitchers is rather poor. Heck, even the great Justin Verlander hasn't done all that great since he signed his contract.
Aside from shaving 2.00 runs off his ERA in the last few games?

His team just doesn't hit for him.

Toronto
Donaldson might not be human
Another 3 run shot. The guy is amazing.

OK, I started this thread so I can partially hijack it.

Getting Donaldson makes me think what the greatest trades have been in Toronto history.

The two that come to mind are getting Donaldson and getting Doug Gilmour. Are there any others that would rank up there?

Cola must be doing a lot of extra work with coaches over at first base because he's made 2 good plays there tonight. Even scooped one out of the dirt which is something he normally can't do.

....

I hope the Gibmeister can get the Sancheese into the game in the 8th inning because he's got 863 people who drove or bused in from Barstow California 2 hours from the stadium to hopefully watch Sanchez play tonight.

ANAHEIM, Calif. – Devon Travis will visit a specialist in Texas next week to get a second opinion on his left shoulder amid concern he may need a full off-season of rest to fully heal.

The Toronto Blue Jays second baseman continues to make slow progress after suffering the injury while striking out against Adam Morgan of the Philadelphia Phillies on July 28, and time is running out for him to return.

The minor-league season ends Sept. 7, which gives him about two weeks to get back into baseball shape and begin a rehabilitation assignment. At the moment, he’s not doing any baseball activities and the longer he needs to heal, the longer he’ll need to get restarted.

Losing Travis would remove an important bat from the mix for the Blue Jays and underscores the importance of Cliff Pennington’s acquisition earlier this month. He and Ryan Goins have formed a platoon at the keystone with both offering plus defence at the position.

The Blue Jays would be dangerously thin without Pennington, acquired from the Arizona Diamonbacks for minor-league shortstop Dawel Lugo.

Travis’s shoulder woes started April 30 against the Cleveland Indians when he was struck on the left collarbone by a Brandon Moss one-hopper, and grimaced later that game when swinging through a Bryan Shaw pitch.

He played through pain until May 17, when he was placed on the disabled list and missed 36 games.

The 24-year-old has enjoyed a strong rookie season, slashing .304/.361/.498 in 62 games with eight homers and 35 RBIs.

Last night and tonight have been just brutal. How the Angels can have any pride or confidence left I do not know.

They are just being spanked like a little girls' softball team.

With a loss tonight, the Angels would fall out of the second wild card slot.
They've been really, really bad for about a month now and I doubt they can reverse all that negative momentum.
Not playing like the real Angels this year. Bad pitching and bad fielding.

I would say the Fred McGriff and Tony Fernandez for Alomar and Carter has to be up there.

Angels don't impress me at all. No ace, CJ Wilson sucks and is out for the year, Weaver can't break 80 mph on his fastball, a bunch of Mexican guys in their bullpen, Scioscia looks fatter by the day, and not much of a lineup beyond Trout, Pujols & Calhoun. The two teams in the wild card game will be Baltimore and the AL East runner up.

I think Texas Rangers will be the second wild card team because the Orioles have struggled esp with starting pitchers.
Rangers playing really great baseball lately.

Without looking at the box scores I think Donaldson has out rbi'd Trout 9 -0 so far in the weekend series.

Jays almost had a great trade prior to the start of the 1977 season.
Louisiana Lightning Ron Guidry (170 career wins) for Bill Singer was a deal negotiated by Pat Gillick; but, the deal was vetoed by rocket surgeon President Peter Bavasi who was pushed out the door soon enough.
Singer went on to get 2 career wins after the almost trade.
