At this point we will have three starters. Strolman, Sanchez and Hutch. Estrada is an FA.The likelihood of Mark Buehrle not returning is high.
He speaks regularly about missing his family, the man has done everything there is to do in professional baseball.
Subtract $14M from my payroll estimate there, making Price's price-tag more palatable to the bean counters.
Slot Stroman into Buehrle's spot in the rotation.
Suddenly, even with paying David Price ~$32M next season, the Blue Jays payroll only goes up ~$20M to ~$144M.
In 2017, I don't see Toronto resigning Encarnacion, he will be an old 34 at that point, and moving toward solely D.H. duties.
That's a big salary off the books, as wil be Dickey's, who will not be in Toronto in '17.
Bautista, I can see finishing his career here, but does his salary increase?
And not much trade bait. We have to do basically nothing for the batting and D. But will have to shell out for pitching.
You're putting a lot of faith in Colabello, on a very small sample size.I think a Cola/Smoak platoon could easily replace EE ( and possibly be better), and for a lot less money too
He is not strong defensively at all (E.E. is not a gold glover, but he is significantly better).
Encarnacion has a lot more power than either of Smoak/Colabello, playing a traditionally power position.
The club would be saving about $6-7M by declining E.E.'s option and going with that platoon at 1st.

We could be losing 3 of our 5 current starters. With Stroman , Sanchez and possibly Osuna in the mix next spring, the starting depth falls off alot after those 3 . Dickey will likely have his option picked up. Hutch is arb eligible and will get a raise.
The smart move may be to get 2 starters instead of resigning Price at $30mil. Lowe and Hawkins are UFA as well , so an extra bonafide starter leaves more options for the pen.
I'd like to see Estrada extended , something like 3 years at $8.5mil + 2 option years at $10mil per.
I guess a lot of that will depend on the new President and if AA is still here .

If Jays let EE go, and platoon Cola/Smoak at 1B, how is that changing a power position?? You bat them same spot in the lineup (or close to it), and since Smoak can bat left you play him against Righties, and play Cola against Lefties

Different times, but as memory serves, between $40M & $50M.
The falling Angels might be out of a playoff slot very soon with the Texas Rangers charging at them for the last spot and that would open up a wide lane for Donaldson to win the MVP over Trout since players from non playoff teams seldom win the MVP award at the end of the season.

Don't forget the concessions. The gear. And the increased advertising payout from ratings. They have been exceeding leafs games in viewership.
