Nad is right about one thing, Gibby doesn't gave a very good lifetime managerial record. Its barely over .500
HoF candidate Joe Torre was SUB .500 before lucking into managing one of the all time great Yankee teams in the late 90's. Did that make him a shitty manager?!

IMHO, Gibby has the best tummy in MLB. And he is FAR AND FUCKING AWAY the best spitter. On those two important stats, he is clearly AL manager of the year. End of story.

Joe Torre was secretly a mobster. He fixed the whole league and threatened to whack other managers if they didnt throw their games.

You know its true. Eh, fughedabout it

Yeah, but how's Gibby's scratching ability.
I don't see him listed anywhere in the league leader for that.
That sir, is a much bigger, more important statistic when evaluating field managers.

Magic # is 44.

Maybe in a few weeks people will finally be able take my year long countdown seriously.
I always looked for your magic number post at least once a week, and now, less then 50 games, looking for it several times a week.
Come September I will checking it daily !

OK..lets agree that measuring a manager is more difficult than a player. No batting average, ops, era to look at. Here are my grades for Gibbons....feel free to agree or disagree

Setting the Line up - C - stubborn leaving Tulo where he doesn't belong, too much faith in Martin and Pillar

Pitching decisions - B - would have been higher except for his bungling of last Price start

Leadership - D - no evidence of him inspiring the troops - lack of energy and fire as a manager

Media relations - A - has he ever said anything to get himself into trouble, the Texas old boy thing seems to work here - will it work in playoffs?

Wants to win real bad - C - sure he wants to win - but way too accepting of losses

Track Record - C -

Handling of umpires - C - A little too slow in dealing with bad calls, his after game comments after KC series too kind

Personal habits - spitting - not shaving everyday - scratching - sitting and not standing during games ---------no grade

First of all I'm not knocking Gibbons as a person - he seems like a pretty good guy and gets along well with players, media and the fans.
But little question in my mind that he is a sub-par manager. Right now he is the Achilles Heel of this team.
His track record shows minimal success at any level.
He's far too complacent and doesn't seem like he's engaged in the game. Doesn't seem to be able to make the adjustments required on the fly.
Watch managers like Sciosca and Showalter - those guys are standing, moving around, chatting to players and other coaches, yelling out to fielders, sticking up for their players when umps get testy or inconsistent with strike zone. Gibbons rarely does this.
Recent example of Gibbons poor decision making - 1st game in Philly the other night when he left Dickey in too long. Anyone with half a brain knew that he didn't have his stuff that night and should have been removed after the 1st two batters reached in the 5th. It cost us a run but luckily didn't cost us the game.

I think if Jay management is gonna keep Price, Tulo.....etc and build a world-class over the long term, they will need a world-class manager as well. Sorry to say but I dont think Gibby fits that bill.

I give him a 7/10 at best.
He's not a bad manager but he's not among the best either

Agreed. I think most of us agree he isn't an elite manager. The extent to which he really influences game results is debatable but there are going to be at least a few losses to put down to his decision making as the games progress.

With that line-up they deserve someone a bit better.

AK if you're going to go full dago get your vernacular right, it's forgedboutit.

Let's enjoy this run for what it is, if they take it all it will be the Fran Angelico whipped cream on top. When the weather gets colder we wont have much to cheer about. The Raptors will be a mid-table team and the Leafs will "suck big fuckin elephant dicks, got that".

Gregorius is supposed to be successor to Jeter, but I'm not so sure about that

Good 1st half inning for Gibbons. They showed him 6 times and he was standing each time. As well, there were two times when he had a very stern/concerned look on his face. Almost intense. And wouldn't you know it, the Jays score 3.

And the Indians score 3 runs at same time to lead 7-3.

Coincidence, I think not
