Travis struggled when he hit leadoff but has been great when lower in the order. Would you seriously mess around with Donaldson who has been awesome hitting 2nd? Those are my concerns. Tulowitzki hasn't been great for the Jays yet but he is still a proven commodity and shouldn't be getting less at bats than Colabello.

Travis hit poorly at the top of the lineup because that coincided w his injury period. He has a high on base %. Colabello has a high average and is a precision line drive hitter, rather than a slugger and so is a good #2. Donalson is the prototypic #3 - power, high average, hits to all fields. Bautista has now become a low average, high power run producer. Batting EE 5th protects Bautista and Donaldson. Batting Tulo 6th takes the pressure off him.

You could swap Travis and Revere, if you wanted.

Carrera was a dead man walking when all the trading, moving and shaking started, but it must have been a very tough decision for AA to pick Colabello over Valencia. I am sure he ran the numbers through his calculations with a lot of care and we are, again, beginning to see why he made the choice that he did.

Cola is an excellent pure hitter. Bluebird Banter keeps quoting sabermetrics and "proving" that Cola will become an average batter. Ain't happened. Won't happen. He's skilled. And even better, he's clutch.

We need Cola to balance the low average rbi-machine slugger guys like Smoak, Bautista and EE. The latter 3 will rack up runs, but they aren't always able to produce that 1 key hit in the bottom of the 9th. Cola does.

In years past, I would agree. But pitching performances have jumped this year. Good starters are now throwing a run lower ERA than in years past.

That's the problem with definitions.

That was not a quality start. A quality Dickey start is the command we saw in his past 2 or 3 outings. Oagre is right: he did not have it today. But I am not worried. It is unrealistic to expect near perfection from a player in a game that defines excellence as failing about 7 times out of 10 as a hitter or winning about 6 games out of 10 as a team.

In years past, I would agree. But pitching performances have jumped this year. Good starters are now throwing a run lower ERA than in years past.

Runs scored have dropped for sure this season, but I'm happy with R.A. putting up 6+ & 3 or fewer ER/Game.
His last 14 starts (Since June 1st, he's given up 0 2x, 1 3x, 2 4x, 3 4x, 5 1x.
Failed to go at least 6 only 2x, both 5 2/3 . I'll take that from the Blue Jays #3 starter every year.
