TORONTO – Third baseman Josh Donaldson and starting pitcher David Price of the Toronto Blue Jays were named the American League co-players of the week on Monday.

Donaldson batted .385 (10-for-26) with nine runs scored, two doubles, five home runs with eight runs batted in over from Aug. 3 to Aug. 9.

Price went 2-0 with a 0.60 earned-run average and 18 strikeouts in 15.0 innings pitched in his first two starts with the Blue Jays.

Donaldson and Price have been instrumental in Toronto’s eight-game win streak which has launched the Blue Jays in to an AL wild card spot. Toronto is now 1.5 games back of the AL East-leading New York Yankees.

This is Price's first career weekly honour and Donaldson's third, last winning earlier this season for the period ending May 31st.

Among his AL counterparts, Donaldson finished the week first in home runs, runs scored, total bases (27) and extra-base hits (7), second in slugging percentage (1.038), tied for second in RBI, tied for fourth in walks (5) and tied for fifth in on-base percentage (.484). Price completed the period first in innings pitched, tied for first in wins and strikeouts, and tied for fourth in ERA.

Nobody could have predicted that NYY sweep. We could all have hoped but the end result of giving up 1 (questionable) run is unbelievable.

Not so long ago that games there would always be losses.
And it's not over yet :thumb: BTW I hear that scalpers are asking $10K a seat for Sunday's game !!!

Are you crazy? Really?

I sat 2 rows behind the Blue Jay dug-out a weekend ago.
Not any more. Steadily selling out games now. Thursday through Sunday this week is gone. If they move into first expect a lot more, especially on the weekend series.

The city has been starved for Good meaningful baseball. They will be coming out in droves.

Dallas Braden talking head on ESPN's Monday Night Baseball refers to the Blue Jay's as a " Beer League softball team" says Beer league teams have 1-2 guys that can hit but the Blue Jays have 1-4. I think he should be invited to throw batting practice sans the protective screens.

He was paying the Jays a compliment. He was impressed with the Jays batting lineup. Everyone taking his comments out of context.

Exactly. What he means is in some of those leagues you get teams that hit a ridiculous amount of Homers. That describes the Jays right now.

Scalpers can ask whatever they want.
I've listed Maple Leafs tickets on StubHub that have a face of $170 C each
for crazy numbers, never sold until I dropped to something more realistic.
It's worth the fishing expedition though. You might catch one.

Ticket sellers can ask whatever they'd like.
According to the Toronto Star, the highest price paid on StubHub this weekend
is ~$1370 C for a ticket with a face value of $75 C

The Blue Jays signed Price?

Link please
Yup, the Jays signed Price from now till the end of this season.
When the Jays made the trade with Tigers it involved some type of signature exchange

Actually, that could be easier than it might seem because there was no injury to his arm or upper body, so I am sure he must have been working on strengthening exercises for his throwing as part of his rehab.

And, if he can replace Hutch in the rotation while keeping Sanchez in the bullpen, then I would take the odds and bet on them going to the WS... with a great chance of winning, too.

I read Dr. James Andrews said his progress has been miraculous .
Jays rotation would be up there with the Cards if he comes back strong.

No decision has been made as to what his potential role may be.

They are stretching him out so that they have the option of using him in either situation.
