I am not here to defend AA or Gibbons... but there is another side to the pitching story in terms of what they had coming out of spring training:
- Castro, overwhelmed,
- Norris, not quite ready,
- Sanchez, injured,
- Stroman, injured,
- Dickey, time to stop making excuses and acknowledge he is not a quality pitcher,
- Hutch and Loup, hot-and-cold,
- Cecil, inadequate...

Failures are part of the game, but that's 2/3rds of the opening roster pitching staff... way more than a reasonable toll.

Now, add to that Reyes: either something wrong with his arm or with his head.

they might get a broken bat and a bag of sunflower seeds for Dickey in a trade
Thats not true at all.....

.....they should at least be able get 2 broken bats.

Also, last week Tampa was in 1st, a week later they are in 4th place......LOL

Hutch off to a rough start down 3-0 in the first. What is it with this guy and pitching on the road?

Maybe Hutchison should move over into the bullpen for the rest of the season and have Daniel Norris take his spot in the starting rotation.
Hopefully Norris has learned a bit down in Buffalo.

Hutch is fine at home but awful on the road. Left tonight's game after 5 complete with the lead but our power house bullpen lost the lead. Last score I saw was 6-6 after 7

The tying run scored on a misplay by Colabella....walk off home runs happen to the best of closers......do not blame the bullpen....also offence shut down in later innings

Also Jays were a bit unlucky when Bautista hit that line drive back at pitcher in 8th inning with one man on

Pretty hard for a pitcher to win a game when the offence musters up a total of zero runs.

These guys are now just limping into the ASG break... 2 and 5 so far in this road trip and 10 and 14 since their streak... and the Royals are no slouches.

I am an optimist and a betting man... sometimes! I would need pretty hefty odds to consider betting on the BJ's having a post-season this year... and I am not so sure even then.

AA may be lucky enough to land one front line pitcher -- for which he is going to have to pay a hefty price -- but as things stand now I don't think even that will be enough. Too many holes in the pitching... Dickey, Hutch, Cecil and, I think, Loup, too; whether Delabar and Estrada will perform still remains to be seen. And when Sanchez will come back and how effective he will be is also up in the air! They have only 5 reliable pitchers...

Same pattern, I am afraid, as 2013 and 2014. And the same solution applies: get a manager that can manage! I nominate Sandy Alomar, but I doubt he is available.

Or, does AA have the balls to make a trade that can substantially change the character of the BJ's like the McGriff/Fernandez/Carter/Alomar trade did?

Oh, well...

Speaking of injuries, how do you feel about Donaldson taking part in the HR contest at the All Star game?
4 things can happen.
a) It screws up his swing.
b) He hurts himself.
c) It screws up his swing and he hurts himself.
d) Nothing happens.

Need to find a quality starter and reliever(someone that can close effectively would be ideal) without breaking up the core of the team or giving away the whole farm!
My guess is AA will either come up with a couple of players no one thought or knew were available, or he will do little or nothing.
Anytime you see the Jays are after a certain player, doesn't happen with him. He keeps his cards real close to his vest.
I just hope if he does do something to fix the pitching situation, he doesn't open up a hole somewhere else. Jays could use a 4th outfielder too. Saunders may or may not
return this year and if he does will he stay healthy?

Has anyone considered that by July 31, we might be sellers not buyers........if we get swept by KC ( a real possibility) and tough sched after the all star break.......maybe get some young stud prospect pitchers for EE or Reyes going to a real contender? Might be better in the long run.

I agree reluctantly that the Jays just have too many holes all over the place.
I don't think they should make any trade deadline deals to acquire expiring contracts.
Look at what the A's did last year. They got Jeff Samardzija and John Lester and the team got much much worse after they got those 2 pitchers.
Getting an outsider, mercenary, rental player who can't wait to leave the team guarantees nothing.

The Jays should model themselves after the San Francisco Giants.
They developed a glut of talent in the minors and I don't have any memory of them making significant acquisitions at the deadline when the won the world series in 2010, 2012, and 2014.
They did it with their own guys.

With the glut of offence, some cheap options, and many teams looking for a bat, I don't understand why the Jays just don't do a baseball trade, Encarnacion + prospect for pitcher. You could take Colabello out of left... It will be a hitting downgrade, but perhaps a larger pitching upgrade, plus you protect the system.
