Yes, but the Giants had/have good management... :eyebrows:

Think we may be seeing a major management change here too, Beeston is gone at years end, unless Jays make playoffs doubt if AA stays on which will probably terminate Gibby.
Result will probably be new guy tearing down and rebuilding and here we go again.

With the glut of offence, some cheap options, and many teams looking for a bat, I don't understand why the Jays just don't do a baseball trade, Encarnacion + prospect for pitcher. You could take Colabello out of left... It will be a hitting downgrade, but perhaps a larger pitching upgrade, plus you protect the system.

They are trying to make a trade, the problem is the trade market is almost non-existent right now. AA going to have to wait until more teams are out of the play off race and throw in the towel. Of course, if we don't start winning soon we might be one of them.

I don't know why some of you are so anxious to trade Encarnacion. He happens to be one of the elite hitters in the game who has always been very streaky and is in a minor slump right now... unless he is part of a block buster trade mentioned above.

I would rather trade Reyes. He has a lot of energy and hoopla but his defence has fallen far short of the 22 million he is being paid... with the talent the BJ's have, his bat won't be missed and Goins is a better defender right now. I also think that, given the role, Travis could be at least as good if not a better lead off.

Before the BJ's start tearing down a very good team they ought to give a good manager a chance to manage this team.

Gibby is a mediocre manager with a less than .500 career and current record notwithstanding the often excellent talent he has been given over the past 3 years... AA chose a friend rather than the best talent available when he chose him... so, ultimately, it his responsibility.

I really like EE as a player and a person...but I do think he could get us something good in return (more than Reyes or Dickey or navarro). Secondly, since I don't think the Jays are going to contend in September....it would be good to see EE on a playoff team. I would root for his team in the playoffs. Washington perhaps?

I'm starting to wonder if Bautista needs to be traded as well (along with EE).

Joey is 33 now, if you wait till he's 34 or 35 you get nothing for him.
Then again, if JB can keep hitting till he's 40 like Juice-Rod, maybe we should keep him.

Dillemmas are crazy

When you are considering EE or Bautista, remember they can veto any trade. EE probably more value to the Jays than he is to a lot of teams, good bat adequate at first, backs up Bautista as a hitter. and that is about it. Just don't see him in the NL as he would not be an everyday player with the wonky back. Think Colabella Valencia or Smoak could draw as much interest from someone looking for a bat at a much lower dollar.

Didn't realize Encarnacion had reached 10/5 trade veto rights or had it in his contract. It would need to be in the AL as you said.

If he had the versatility he had 2 years ago a team like the Mets would be a good team to do a trade with. Excess pitching, starved for offence.

Thing I like aboot Colabello and Smoak they can can platoon along Baustista and Encarnacion.
Then trade these 2 guys for 1 or 2 quality pitchers.

And we win !!!!!!!!!

Groan.
Noah Syndergaard has another amazing outing.
Striking out 13 batters in a 4 -2 win.
I just wonder what team could use a guy like that right about now.
Some team that has some really god awful starting pitchers on their roster, flushing winnable games down the toilet all the time.

It's like the Jays gave away the next Roy Halladay or Dave Stieb in exchange for virtually nothing. Gracias AA.
But, that's what can happen when you trade away star prospects for late blooming old guys going into their 38, 39, and 40 year old seasons.
Has all the makings as the worst trade in the history of the team. Don't think the St. Louis Cardinals would have given this guy away like that.

Forever and always a Blue Jays fan, but I am just about ready to throw in the towel on another season.
Does anyone else want AA gone ?
I think we were so happy to see Ricciardi fired that anyone would brought great joy, plus AA is Canadian may have clouded our judgement.
Boy could we use an up and coming Pat Gillick again.

I also have been a BJ fan since franchise opening day... snow, sleet and all!

As for AA, the BJ's opted for a bean counter and, so, we have been counting beans! Building a team involves more than studying sabermetrics... it needs understanding character and character is not a computational exercise. The Pat Gillick's of this world understand that!

I am tired of wait-till-next-year but I must be a masochist because I don't think I am ready to quit... yet!

I sat on the fifth deck behind home plate that day Joe Carter touched them all and would like to experience that again...

I'm pretty sure there would have been a slew of scathing posts with a loss today instead of mine being the first. Losses seem to bring out the "experts" much more easily.

Nice win against the best team in the AL and getting to possibly the best 'pen in the majors.

I agree that I'd have expected them to be better than they have been lately and another arm would be nice but they are no way out range of the lead and lots can still happen. I don't think anyone would argue that there is a lot of character on this team. They are not quite ready to cave. And for all our "time to build for the future posts" I don't see any other team pulling away.

Did not think they would lose as many games as they have since the winning streak. Expected .500 or better. No new injuries just what appears to be exhaustion.
Definitely have to acquire some bullpen help. Every time they go to the pen my anxiety level jumps! Almost always an adventure.
IfFelix pitches anything close to his last outing today, the Jays should have a shot at the W

I did not get out to old Ex Stadium until the second game.
Been a fan since I thought we were getting the San Fran Giants.
Much prefer the expansion route.

Oh cry me a river.

Where were your posts bashing the trade when it was made?

The same place they would've been when the Blue Jays traded Jeff Kent for David Cone.
Nowhere to be found.

The Cone/Kent trade worked.
Syndergaard/Dickey, not so much it seems.

This happens in baseball.

Sometimes teams trade the future for a run at a championship.
If it works, great, flags fly for ever.
If not, it's hard to fault A.A. for trying.
"Experts" around baseball liked that trade (for both clubs).
Las Vegas odds-makers made Toronto the betting favourite for the World Series the next season.
Toronto knew they were giving up future talent in a effort to win now.

I think there is a point to be made....

The trades that Pat Gillick made, for the most part, worked; the trades that AA has made, for the most part, have not.

In a very major way, a team and its destiny are what the GM makes of them...

You spoke too soon. Disastrous first inning certainly not helped by the defence. Pitching and defence is going to prevent this club from coming anywhere close to making the playoffs.
