Boyd was ok....should not have been sent out in the 7th......but this was a day for Gallardo, sometimes a good pitcher just beats you
Perhaps good for Boyd to have the confidence of his manager....
It didn't make a difference any way.

I'm comfortable with him making another start.
most other days, he would have won.

Not a very good debut for Boyd IMO. Jays pitchers in the system need a lot more work.
It was actually a solid debut.

No walks and tied the team record in Ks for a debut. He faced a solid pitcher, (who is on a hot streak).

No run support was the problem. Only the second time this team has been shutout all-season.

He allowed less runs and went longer than most of Hutchison and Buerhle's starts this season.

If he doesn't get traded prior to July 2, (which is possible since the Reds like him... And have been scouting his AAA games...), he will be facing Boston so run support should not be such a problem).

Would be nice to think Sanchez will be back by then.

100% guaranteed that he won't be back before the All-Star break....

He needs rehab starts- everything I have heard has said there's no way he will be back before then.

(And he may end up as the closer if we add a solid starter soon...)

Didnt like the 3 long balls he gave up, not to mention 9 hits in only 6 innings. Plus 2 of those long balls were hit by guys hitting .200.

The ideal situation would be for the Jays to add an ace, save the money on the closer and limit Sanchez's innings by putting him back there.
Any idea which team wants to part with their ace? If they do how bad is his salary and how many prospects do they want for him?

The Reds.... Philly, White Sox, and any team that realizes they're out in the next month.

I suspect we will be saying bye to Norris soon. It is going to hurt.

I don't think money is an issue- it's the prospects and that will suck.

money may be an issue, it may depend on the length and terms of the players contract. IMO Phillies don't have much to offer in starters, Reds owner won't allow trades until all star game is over
White Sox looking pretty sad as are the Brewers and A's. There are bodies out there but at the moment it is a seller's market.

Remember that trades made now cost half as much in terms of salary. Also- we have big contracts coming off the payroll next season, (if we get someone that isn't a short-term rental).

Texas is a weak batting order. The O's or Yankees would have hit the kid out of the game by the 3rd inning.

TORONTO – Two-time Cy Young Award winner Johan Santana has abandoned his comeback bid with the Toronto Blue Jays.

General manager Alex Anthopoulos said Saturday that a toe infection was the primary factor in Santana’s decision. He said Santana plans on pitching winter ball.

Santana hasn’t pitched in the majors since 2012 with the New York Mets. The 36-year-old lefty signed a minor league deal with Toronto in February but never appeared in a game at any level.

He missed all of 2011 and 2013 following shoulder surgeries. He signed a minor league deal with Baltimore in 2014 but his season ended last June after he tore his Achilles tendon.

Santana is 139-78 with a 3.20 ERA in 12 major league seasons. He was the AL Cy Young winner with Minnesota in 2004 and 2006.

It was said that if he played here this season, it'd be a huge bonus.

End of the day- he very-well have made an intangible impact hanging out in Duneidan.

In terms of Boyd... He fell victim to lefties. He has allowed 5 hrs in 95 innings this year. Yes- in the minors but the minors are indicative of success here... (That's why randy Wilf isn't here despite his success in Buffalo and that's why Norris hasn't returned). Look at our starting rotation. 3 solo HRs is not horrible. I really don't think he was bad.

He has a week to train up here.

Jeff Hoffman had his best start today for Dunedin.
He seems to always pitch exactly five innings every outing and typically has 4 shutout innings and one bad inning.
Today he went 5 innings only give up 2 hits and no runs.

Jays first overall pick in this year's draft, Jon Harris, made his professional debut yesterday with the Vancouver Canadians and also got off to a nice start.
2.2 innings pitched, 1 hit, 4 SO, 1 BB, 0 runs

I think Harris might have fallen down to the Jays because he had a terrible start in his last college game just before the draft.
Gave up something like 8 earned runs in 8 innings pitched.
Kind of like tripping and falling on your way into a job interview room.

Also in somewhat related Blue Jay news the main pitcher Toronto sent to Oakland in the Josh Donaldson trade, Kendall Graveman, has been very impressive since getting called up from the minor leagues on May 23/15.
So, Billy Beane is getting something in the Donaldson trade. Losing Graveman was the main thing that worried me about the Donaldson trade; but, you've got to give up something in order to get something.

This may be trivial but what's with the relatively new trend of pitchers not acknowledging the crowds applause when removed from the game. I was at the game today and when Gibby removed Boyd the crowd gave him a great ovation with about 1/3 of the crowd giving him a standing ovation. No tip of the cap or wave from him. That pisses me off. Can someone remind him he's not Roger Clemens.
P.S. Someguy in the crowd had a 24 Romero jersey on. Did this guy just wake from a coma?

I'm still trying to figure out why crowd gave him a standing O to begin with. He served up 3 homeruns which luckily were all solo shots. Had there been a couple of guys on base we'd be looking at a blowout right now
