No to trading Gardiner ! For the love of god Patience with this guy . Luke Schenn , Keith Aulie , Carlo Colaiacovo , Ian White , Brendan Bell etc .. What's with T.O and young defenseman ... One year they are the defenseman the Leafs are promoting how great they will be in years to come and then like Gardiner eventually they are preparing to ship them out of towm ... Now Riley is the next one ... Stop trading and start developing ..

Just to be clear I am not against trading Gardiner, but I am not promoting it either. I just want to make sure the Leafs get full value for him IF they do trade him.
A team can never have enough good defensemen.
I don't think anyone is saying"Trade Gardiner"! There was a report in the good old Toronto media that the Leafs had been approached about Gardiner's availability. I believe it was Elliot Friedman that reported it. The Leafs are reportedly looking for cap space and have an excess number of defense men.

I heard the rumor on 1050, I think Bob McKenzie was IMPLYING a good Dman in a pending trade, then it followed with speculation with Gardiner mentioned. I think Nonis has said clearly before: no body is untouchable, so there you go. To get a good player in return we get to give up something equally good, or at least in the eyes of our trading partner ... For Gardiner, it MUST be a high caliber player coming here.
Last Summer many guys was saying meh about the Bernier trade, I did believe in Nonis' vision, and still do.
The excess of Dmen Leafs have are still in the developing state, good depth here for the Buds. Take Brennan, last week had a hat trick for the Marlies, may even see him the Sat Leafs game
Holtzer and Liles. Fraser is out at the moment but he sends someone to the minors or Moose Jaw(or both) when he returns.
I'm sure they would like to move Liles and his 4 million plus contract. Holtzer the most likely to move as he is under a million.
Speaking of Ian White (above), man he was one of my favorites, he's short but not "small", strong on his skates, I remember him beating up the much taller Eric Cole in a fight. I also recall he didn't make many mistakes, always got the puck out, and always covered his man. Very underrated D-man. Always had a smile on his face as well and a killer moustache.
Haven't read all 13 pages of this post but as of last night's game ......it's obvious Ranger needs more time in the AHL. He looked slow and out of place.
Ranger is the worst...he'll be a liability all season. That being said, being paired with Gardiner is doing him no favours.

Trades used to be talent for talent, but not so much anymore.
So I did some reading up on TJ Brennan as I don't know anything about him, wow he had a hat trick and an assist in one game (as a D-man!!), got another 2 point game, and got player of the week. Knowing Carlyle, that should probably net him about 6 minutes playing time tomorrow.
I think we're all cheering for Ranger to make it, after his leave of absence that no one will speak of but people likely attribute to mental health issues. Maybe he'll pick it up, but in the meantime hope that Brennan can stick. I liked what I saw of Percy as well, pretty poised for a young guy, he'll probably be given a chance as well this season, so far it seems like guys are dropping like flies with injuries.

It was a wise move on Carlyle's part to pair Gardiner with Fraser, unfortunately without the later Gardiner's defensive shortcomings are being exposed. Morgan Riley appears to be a better positional player but he'll make his share of mistakes as he develops. I hope to be proven wrong but Gardiner appears to be Luke Schenn from the neck up.
That's a new reality, but still if a guy got traded because of a big contract, then the team which gets him has to have cap space for him, who does nowadays? Just look at how hard it is to trade a guy like Luongo! He was a hot commodity not so long ago...
I was not speaking clearly on the post: it should have been VALUE instead of just pure talent. Value = pay vs payoff. In this regards, trades are made because it appears to be answering the need for both sides, with the value is the deciding factor. If LA did not see the package they got in return (including the 1/2 mil of cap space) is equal or near equal, they could have taken other offers for Bernier. They made the trade because it answered their need to move Bernier, they would lost him for nothing end of this season, they got 1/2 a mil cap space, an affordable backup goalie, a will-be good (in their mind) player in return.
Onesided trade is only apparent a long while after the fact, give away never happens. No sane GM would make trade a current star/star-to-be player for the unknown. Nonis seems to be sound-minded to me.
In this round of rumor involving Gardiner, ANY comparable player coming in will have a bigger salary than him, that I'm sure of. If he keeps playing like he has in the last 4 games, his value is highest right now since he played. How the Leafs going to do to make room for the newcomer under the cap is another matter. How about a swap for Tyler Seguin? Would love it!
orr is a waste of space. big deal, he runs around and takes a run at somebody. leafs got rid of the wrong guy couple years back.... mike brown, hit, fight, backcheck, and he,d score you a few goals. jmho.

Bernie has been good so far. Three starts, allows 1 goal, 2 goals, and zero goals, he should be 3-0!
The first two goals of the game, the play was made by JVR below the icing. Off the loss faceoff, he beats the defense man to the puck to center to Kessel, he shoots he scores. Then JVR heads to the net and snatches the puck on the icing line from the goalie then does the wrap around. Not exactly the typical cycle on the forecheck, but that is the type of goal that results from a good forechecking game, turnovers and creating chances deep inside the zone.
The Leafs did not generate much off the rush tonight, but two plays down low by a big guy with good hands was really the difference in the game.
The Leafs have to forecheck more. That is why it is such a puzzle that Colbourne young man was traded. He could forecheck. He's a better forecheker than Colton Orr.
It is very strange the final shots on goal. The Leafs got out shot again, but outside of those power plays all for the Predators in the second period, they did not seem to have any real good chances. Bernie only had to make 3 or 4 tough stops, and one of them was a bouncing puck. When Nasville was trailing 2-0 in the third period, I think they only got one real good chance with Weber sneaking in from the blue line and that new Leafs player did not know the defenseman was sneaking in. Bernie came way out of his net and there was nothing to shoot at. A good chance, quickly nullified by good goaltending. No re-bounds and scrambles in front of the Leafs net tonight.
I have been busy lately. Do not even know who is playing Saturday Night.

Hope Franson is ok, initially they said it was a cut on the nose, not sure if there's any concussion or if he'll be out for a while. What a chicken shit move by Fisher, he should be suspended for at least a couple of games for that. I think Rielly will stay past the 9 game tryout, he looks awesome out there, way too good for junior, and he's great in interviews, just as poised as he is on the ice, he could give Kessel lessons on how to give an interview. Bernier is keeping the team in games long enough for them to wake up and get the wins.
