So you think future rapists would not care about couple of years in jail but would care about longer sentences?
They were sentenced to juvey. I think being sentenced as an adult when you're 16 and then being sent to federal "pound-me-in-the-ass" prison, once you turn 18, would be a deterrent to those looking to rape a drunk girl at a party. Plus they would have gotten what they deserved. The sentence is too lenient.

Ya the poor little bastards. Fucked by the royal pussy again. I feel so sorry for them. I really do. It wasn't their fault at all. All hers for being drunk, passed out and unable to tell them yes, go ahead and fuck me dry and piss all over me.
While these kids were little abusive shits.. I do agree there are double standards. When I was in residence at uni, a bunch of the girls got together and though it would be a good idea to sneak into the mens communals and steal our clothes while we were showering.. then as we walked back to our rooms wearing a shower curtain they would ambush us and try and rip the shower curtain off.. I thought it was relatively harmless and funny, but when I think back and consider what would happen if guys did that to the girls? OMG!!! SEND IN THE SWAT TEAM.

I think the sentence is fair...there is nothing to be gained from destroying these kids.

Sadly there are never real winners in cases such as this.
Except maybe the next young girls in Stupidville who might escape a similar attack because the jerk pause to remember this case. Maybe even some testosterone driven jerk who gets the urge and thinks twice.

Exactly.

Teenagers simply are too young to have developed the necessary cognitive functions in their brains. I've read that the human brain is not fully developed until age 25 and the last thing to mature is judgement. Probably why 18 and 19 year olds make the best soldiers. If they thought about what they were being asked to do, they wouldn't do it.

I think the fact that they were part of a beloved high school football program has a lot to do with the punishment they received. I mean, one and two years minimum? They will probably serve the minimum and be released. If these were teenagers that belonged to a street gang, they definitely would have gotten longer sentences.

They knew what they were doing was wrong. C'mon I was 16 once, and I knew the difference between right and wrong.

Actually the brain of a teenager is different than grown ups and thing are looked at differently. One researcher put it to me one day, still under construction with different regions continually in conflict and telling right from wrong is one of the major conflicts. Does this excuse the little jerks, of course not.

Wouldn't want to offer up some reading material for you as I would risk being called a Google Monster. I'm sure you can do it yourself though.

Today is a new day and I want to be a part of a constructive conversation. Quite the 180, huh?

... and that makes a difference how? It was just a reminder to him that he makes big/stupid mistakes sometimes; point made.
It makes a difference in that he made a reasonable attempt to respond to you in a way that would
establish a more positive framework for discussion. I guess that's not good enough.

Well, in this case I think there is hope they may be "rehabilitated" as I don't think they are hardcore criminals. They as just dumb kid who got out of control in a situation that should not have been allowed to happen. As for the victim, without knowing everything that happened I cannot say for sure if she shoulders any of the blame. But as a defence lawyer, how on earth are you supposed to effectively cross examine a young teenage rape victim ?
