How dumb am I? I bought a jacket with coyote fur on the collar.

I was doing some work in Timmins recently where it's bitterly cold. I ended up shopping on Main St. and picked up a Canada Goose jacket as there were limited options. Priciest coat I've ever bought but I've always heard good things about how warm they are. I totally thought the fur on collar was fake not coyote fur. My mistake. Gross. (Though I get that I eat meat, wear leather shoes and do other things that would make PETA rage) I just wish I was more informed before I dropped almost $700 bucks on the coat. At least the collar can be zippered off. I wish I could just return it though. The company line is that the fur is for function, not fashion.

I had heard that in some or many cases the fur came from animals that died a natural or misadventure death (or were "accidentally" shot or killed).

So let me get this straight... You are grossed out because the fur on your jacket is humanely (as much as it can be) harvested according to guidelines...

But you are good with wearing leather, eating beef, and I am sure chickens (where commercial chickens are raised in the most inhumane way possible)?

So they claim but having hundreds of jackets in the market...How many coyotes are actually getting killed accidentally? I don't know how the process works and not that I only go for faux fur now. I just don't want to know the details of how the fur end up on my hood if I was to get one. I don't even know if you can tell the difference between real or not because it's just a small part of the jacket.

You know anyone who has had livestock attacked (and eaten) by Coyotes? I dare say the Coyote was almost certainly killed in a more humane manner.

Im guessing the fur serves a "function" and not just for fashion. So relax there are too many of those mangey mutts running around anyway. Its not like its baby seal...awwww not those are cute. My feelings are that you are more of a dope for paying $700 for a jacket. But to each their own

If I go coyote hunting and take a few of the buggers out, can I have the fur sewn onto a jacket?

Timmins had weather of minus35. I would have paid twice as much if it would have gotten me through that sheer coldness. The jacket worked on the cold. I just have been conditioned by the anti fur militants not to want to wear fur. I get that it makes no sense as I eat meat, wear leather shoes and I'm not a vegan.

Coyotes are harvested in the wild by (usually) skilled hunters and trappers who make sure the animal suffers as little as possible. Way more humane than farm raised fur where the animals live in horrible conditions and are sometimes even skinned alive.

Don't worry about it . There are plenty of Coyotes around . As a matter of fact too many . I see them in town all the time . They attack livestock and are a danger to people's pets .

Just like the wolf harvest that they have in Alaska . A pack of wolves can kill 50 moose in one season so the wolves have to be harvested to keep the moose population strong .

As a side note , do dogs react in a funny way when you walk by them . he he

If they confront you, just say the fur came from coyotes "accidentally" killed by the Pisouris brothers, Oscar and Carl. (Rock: That was a bad joke, now you upset the sensitivities of the jerks on the Board.)

Ill bet you 99.something % of people that live in Timmins or elsewhere dont own a $700 coat and stay warm just fine. Not to mention you dont live there and are just visiting so not a long term need. Thats your choice of course but goofy to me

I hate the collar. It's itchy, and it blocks your peripheral vision. Just unzip it and be done with it.

I would be more concerned with people being cruel to you by coming up to you and splashing you with red paint.
