Looks like this may be a tough concept for you to grasp. You must be one of those food bringers with a master's degree.

On a bill with a total of $15, the actual value of the food and service is only $13.39 - not $15.00. So, on a bill with a total of $15, my 15% would be calculated on the subtotal ($13.39)... so 15% would be $2.00, not $2.25

Subtotal $13.39
HST 12% $1.61

Total $15.00

Why would anyone tip based on the total? the restaurant / server did not do anything to earn a tip on the HST
H.S.T. is 13% in Ontario, pops.

Totally agree!, I don't tip on tax...just on the sub-total. Although I think most people would calculate the tip on the total bill.
When presented with one of the payment swipe devices, because they calculate the percentage on the grand total I leave 13%....this amounts to 15% on the sub-total

I tip really well. Usually in the 20-25% range in North America when the service is good. 10% when not. Once, I tipped a penny to communicate my displeasure. Aside: it was interesting how quick she was to call me on it but ignored me the entire dinner service. But I only tip those in the food service industry or anyone I ask to carry my luggage or my barber. For example I don't taxi drivers at all, I don't tip valets (I'm already paying significantly extra - that's the tip), or doormen, or bell hops (I just refuse their service). Tipping is getting out of hand and service is not improving. I don't tip at all in most foreign countries, which actually bothers me since service in Canada amounts to shitty entitlement attitudes.

cab drivers i tip because of how they get paid. it's not hourly, a lot of them have to pay 100-150$ a day to use the car and don't make any money until the car and fuel are paid off each day.

I always tip 20% minimum. I've been waitstaff. It sucks. If they're middle-aged, and can't hustle based on looks, I'll do more. I give the maids at the hotel ten bucks to tidy up, even though I don't make much of a mess. Every now and then I will reward discretion more generously, especially when the women are immigrants, and it looks like maybe they're working under the table.
Lola's big heart slips through again. Classy.

yeah i get paid to go on vacation every week and see the country, both countries. no boss breathing down my neck and no stress. currently have 5 job offers on the table with my pay scale constantly going up and average 4-5000$ a year tax return. enjoy carrying your food.

LOL. Vacation... Is that how you justify driving for a living. Here I thought you actually had a job that matched your elitist disposition and you're a truck driver!? C'mon... You just getting offers...

what would you call being paid to drive around and see sites and listen to music all day, then getting paid to sit and hang out in places with hotel rooms paid for. i dropped out of high school and i am more in demand than you with a better career than you. what is your masters in ? food carrying.

You really don't make it sound very demanding.

So you question the lack of skill one job requires while admitting you can only do mindless work.

A truck driving , high school dropout should have nothing to say about anyone else's job. Especially when he does menial, skill-less work. Piggybacks on someone's, 'if you are out of school and are still waiting tables, you have failed life' and hasn't finished school himself. If I have failed you have yet to begin.

shortage of drivers for the loads that need to be moved. that is a blessing and curse for the industry. you get huge companies that hire kids right out of school with no experience and hand them a set of keys with no real world training and that makes us all look bad. the upside is guys with experience get offers like crazy and one pays better than the next. companies also bend over backwards to take care of a good driver.

i dropped out of school and got a job the next day to help take care of my family. every job i have had since i was 16 i was the top guy for the company in less than a year. saying that driving truck is skill-less shows how little you actually know about it. i would love to see you jump in 80,000 pounds of truck and run a mountain range in the winter. good luck with that. you should probably stick to what your doing since you are clueless to everything else.

Graduates or dropouts. Maybe truck driving is perfect for you. I considered highschool a 'walk in the park' and it was much too much for you to manage.

Simon482's outlook on life:
Highschool = Hard
Truck Driving = Vacation (compared to the 'paper or plastic' I guess it is).

they hire kids right out of driving school not high school. you can't get a job in this industry if you are under 25.

And all that 'top guy' status has led to you now driving a truck. What 'companies' did you work for? Just because the kid at the corner asks you to watch his lemonade stand during his piano lesson does not make you the top guy.

I think you have/are suffering from delusions of grandeur.

So the prerequisite skill is having stayed out of a grave for 25 years. You sir are talented.
