Awesome finish to the game tonight. That final play brought me out of my seat with a fist pump!
Yeah That was special as was the earlier play that Davis through to Mathis. In both cases Mathis blocked the plate and took his lumps.
Nice win. I don't care if they are out of it, they are a young team, missing two stars(Bautista and Laurie) with a decimated staff of starters,
damn good effort!

Personally, I like Mathis as the everyday catcher.

They are winning again and that is a good thing.

For next season would like to see improvement/additions at ...
second
LF
2 starters

and maybe first/DH

Here
And I think those 2 starting pitchers are already here: Happ and Villanueva. The present build of the bullpen means Villanueva will be of much greater value as a starter. Of course, in view of their performances this year, how Romero and Alvarez fit in is a real question mark. Morrow seems to be just fine.

With Gose, Sierra and Davis around, they have a pretty good outfield as is... if Gose can hit. And I expect Rasmus will improve -- though there seems to be so much futility in his swing, his production is quite good: 21 home runs and 69 rbi's to date ain't bad!

They need more production from short and second: I don't think Johnson will be back. And I would move Escobar to second -- if he'll go! Again, if Echeverria can hit.

I would think Lind will be traded... if they can find someone who will give some value for him. Cooper could be the answer to the first/DH tandem; preferably, they have to spend some money on a proven DH -- though I don't know who will be available.

If they have learned anything from their struggles this year, the talent is there for next year.

And m'thinks I've heard that song before... it's from an old familiar score, I know it well, that melody...

Oh no, the Jays are now in the "wait until next year" zone. That is almost as bad as "the friend" zone (when she says "let's be friends").

Villenueva becomes a free agent, my guess is that he signs elsewhere...as for DH..big papi will be a free agent, is good friends with Joey Bats..and may want to exit the Boston zoo, intriguing but probablly too expensive..Lind probably stays, Johnson goes, but Hech goes back to tripple a..Cooper gets traded , perhaps for a 2nd baseman?

I'd be sorry to see Villaneuva go, he's pitched well for the Jays this year. As for big papi, if he's signed then there are three guys (Ortiz, Encarnacion, Lind) and only two positions to play (DH, 1B).

Big Papi is too old and too expensive. It's too much of a gamble - sort of like Frank Thomas all over again.

They should strive to retain Villanueva. Along with EE, the best thing that happened this year.

And Cooper. Cheaper and probably more controllable (contract wise) than Lind.

Another miserable outing for Romero. 1+ innings and 7 runs. It's going to be interesting to see what happens over time. 0-12 in his last 13 starts. ERA around 6.

Another home run for Encarnacion. Only 1 out of the MLB lead and Dunn is hurting. The only consistent player and no injuries.

He should reach at least 40 by year-end. We could have had 2 40 HR guys if Jose hadn't participated in that damn home run derby. Both Edwin and Jose became 40 HR guys late in their baseball career.

it may be that Villenueva will test free agency, and
may have told theJays that he will wait till after the World series to entertain any offers...

Never going to accept its possible Batista's injury is not related to the derby are you. Pure speculation.

On the other hand, they are beating teams where games do mean something (for the other team). Our guys are playing for next year's contract.
the phrase "guys are playing for next year's contract" i hear often in all sports and not impressed by these players. They should be playing their best all year round as they are supposely "professionals"...I think? Plus they get paid big salaries.
