this next series with Oakland will be decide the season probably........with Oakland being the 2nd wildcard team, the Jays are currently 5 games back.....a sweep by the A's and the jays will be 9 games back of the second wildcard spot !!!..........so they need to at least split or win 3 of 4 ......going to be a challenge as the A's are one of hottest teams right now !!!

I don't know if it was so much the pitchers on the DL because Laffey, Cecil and Villanueva have actually performed quite well. OTOH, middle relief has been less than stellar.
It has been just that bloody inconsistency, their inability to string together winning streaks which are the mark of really good teams. They never won more than 4 in a row. And that only 3 times; and 3 in a row only 4 times this season. Their losing streaks were much more consistent.

Things seem very grim for a return any time soon.
All were hoping a return tonight off the 15 day DL.
The way Jose was talking it seems to me he expects to be out a very long time.

With his left wrist bandaged tight, Bautista is still taking baby steps in the recovery process. Bautista had a day off from rehab on Tuesday but Wednesday he was going to get back into the swing of things with more dry swings, soft toss and hitting off a tee. “A long ways,” Bautista said. “Obviously with that type of injury in that area of a baseball player’s body and needing to handle a bat and swing it at high speeds with some weight on the bat, it’s something that I don’t feel comfortable with going right now and saying I’m able to play. I’m not going to start playing before I’m capable of doing what I can do and help the team win games. I wouldn’t put myself in a position to either hurt myself worse or not help the team win games.”

Yea that was an awesome homer! Jays now have depth in the pen to keep them in the game.
I think last night's loss really said " boys...your gonna have to wait till next year". When it's not your year, it's not your year.
OAKLAND -- As if a hard-fought, 15-inning defeat wasn't difficult enough, the Blue Jays found themselves dealing with the loss of two regulars on Friday night.
First, third baseman Brett Lawrie left the game after the top of the first inning with tightness in his rib cage, an injury stemming from a fall he took in Toronto's series against the Yankees in mid-July, according to manager John Farrell.
After experiencing discomfort in one of his swings when leading off the game, Lawrie was removed and replaced by Omar Vizquel when the Blue Jays took the field in the bottom of the first. The injury added to what's already been a tough road trip for the 22-year-old -- he's gone 3-for-18 in the first five games of the trip.
Later, center fielder Colby Rasmus was taken out after the top of the 12th inning due to a strained groin, which Farrell said Rasmus actually suffered a couple innings prior.
Both players are day-to-day, and aren't expected to be in the lineup for Saturday's game against the A's.
Looks like we're fielding our AAA team out there.

The team to-day looked like the Jays Spring training "B" team. Glad they won though. When is Bautista coming back? I told him not to participate in that stupid HR derby (bad karma).

Jesse Chavez won in the 11th. Romero did pitch well, and like you say it should do wonders for his confidence.
Romero pitches his best game in ages, he gives up a run after a WP that could have been scored as a PB. Chavez pitches one inning, walks 2 along with a single,manages to get out of the inning without giving up a run and is credited with the win.
A win is a win and they are hard to come by these days.
I've been thinking the same thing for some time now.

Half the position players in the game today are callups from the farm. We still scored 6 runs and got 12 hits.
