The Washington Capitals roll in to town tonight. They are not going too well right now so maybe the Leafs can get back in the win column. Ovechkin has not scored at the rate he did in the past and has been benched by coach Boudreau in recent games.
There have even been some reports that OV is not happy in the US capital. Maybe a change of scenery would help restore the passion, somewhere like ... oh I do not know ... the Southern Ontario area, the GTA ... OV is coming to the Leafs ! lol
OK, clam down, even if that were true, I am not exactly sure I would be too excited about that news. I have never been an OV fan and after five years where he averaged more then 50 goals per season, including a 65 in 07/08, in his sixth and most recent season he dropped to 32 goals while he played in 79 games. What happened ? Is it really just a blip that a trade would fix ? Has he lost the passion altogether ? At almost $10 mil per, I certainly want to know the answer to that question before I pick him up. Anyway, rumours can be fun.

Remier skated in full equipment. No problems were reported, but you may want to call his mom to be sure.
Still no word on when he may return to action though. I, for one, do not expect to see Remier in an NHL game sooner then December.

Lombardi and Komisarek are out three weeks or more.

Komisarek out 8 weeks with a broken arm. Lombardi out at least 3 weeks with "upper body injury".

Time for Aulie and Colbourne perhaps?

Colbourne is called up, do not know if he will dress tonight and it sounded like Aulie was also called up.

What happened is that he got a 13 years 124 million contract without the aid of an agent. Hence, no need to risk an injury. Either that or the early playoff exists the past few years really got to him.

If the team is giving you that kind of money, a true professional does not let things "get to him".

wheres mike pelyk when you really need him.
Hell, why don't we just bring back Carl Brewer? lol. We coaxed him out of retirement once, why not again? At 70? he could still probably teach the young'uns a thing or two about physical hockey. lol.

He is dead, has been for 10 years.
Do ya think that would prevent those two bumbling idiots ( Wilson and Burke ) from trying to trade for him?

Seriously though, didn't know he was gone.

Special teams seem to be coming around.
Leafs killed all five penalties and scored twice on four powerplays chances.

I cannot believe that is the same Ovechkin as the guy who played the first five seasons.
He looks so disinterested, half-hearted back check, uninspired in the offensive zone. He had about 10 shots on goal, only four or so had a chance of going in, especially the way Gustavsson was playing.

The Buds travel to Raleigh, North Carolina to take on the Hurricanes.
Now after last night's performance you would think that the 'Canes would be easy pickings, but I have fallen into that trap before.
I would like to see Gustavsson get back to back games. Go with the hot hand, if you will. It would be the best thing for the team to build some confidence in Gustavsson.
I cannot see Wilson taking Franson out now and I hope this is the start of something for Fratten. I would love to see him score four or five goals over the next couple of weeks or so.

I do not remember where I heard this but ...

The Leafs have called up a defenceman, Korbinian Holzer.
Holzer was a fourth rounder in '06. He is from Germany, 6'3" 205lbs.

I expected it would Aulie.

So much for back to back wins against another struggling team.
The good, Kessel scores both goals in the 3-2 loss.
I think Gustavsson should have started.

At Tampa Tuesday night.

Another big win. Another good game from Gustavsson. Again, I want to see Gustavsson in goal when the puck drops in Dallas on Friday.
Colborne scores his first, nice assist to Frattin. Connolly has a three point night. Gardiner is one cool kid, no panic.
Bozak scores twice to go with an assist.
Lupul and Kessel each get a point and are one, two in NHL scoring.
Leafs are in second in the conference.
