His behaviour was atrocious.

But Molly...there are changes you could make too.... to avoid these situations.

I see so many people..mostly ladies - who are in line, get everything through and bagged..and only then decide to pull the purse up on the little shelf and decide to pay for stuff as if it is a surprise. You will note guys are always ready with debit cards. Women in a majority of cases are like "Oh..I have to pay for this? "

* Next time have card out and ready to go.

And secondly it is extremely rude to the cashier, among others to answer your phone while engaged with someone. You place them as second fiddle. Look at it like your playing ball with your kid...and as your kid throws the ball you walk away and pick up the phone. In all the articles I have read... it is plain rude. Wait and return the call in private.

Again - the guy was rude.... truly.

But if you follow my simple recommendations - you should avoid this type of behavior in the future!!!.

Its like the girl who walks down a dark alley and finds herself getting raped. She knew she should not go down the alley..she knew it was dangerous..and it truly is the rapists fault for raping her....but your still raped and no one can change that.

* So...NO PHONE CALLS - have debit card ready....VOILA....!!!!
Tough analogy... she answers her phone in a line up and is now being compared to a rape victim who should have known better.

Tough crowd!

what would you have said when you called 911 "someone in line is yelling and being mean can you send a a cop" what you should have done, what anyone in that line should have done is told him to shut his cum catcher and then if he got violent you call 911. do you call 911 when burger king gets your order wrong ?
Well of course I would have told him to shut up (as I've clarified in my correction to the post). I would have then called 911, in anticipation of this person reacting violently (likely, given this man's mentally unstable nature).

BTW, I don't eat at Burger King!

if the guy had gently said to her....."Please have your money, debit card and affairs in order the next time"......and "please do not answer your phone again in a lineup" - Probably would have been a better way to handle it......

At least that is the way I handle it. Yes i get looks - but my point is gently made!!

the referance was to a person who called 911 in the drive threw because burger king got the order wrong. most people when told to shut up do so out of shock that someone finally spoke up to them. bullies are scared for the most part and will back down quick when challenged.

You need someone like Patrick Bateman from American Psycho to stand up for you.

I get really annoyed when people hold up a line because they have to answer or yack on the phone. For f sake is the phone call that important? I can understand the guy getting pissed. I wouldn't have hollered at you because you have big tits, but obviously that guy was not a tit man.

So what happens when the cashier answers the phone when she is serving a customer, and makes them wait until she is done? Does that mean the rude customer should scream and swear at her instead? More times than I can count the cashier takes or makes a call, assists the other cashier or leaves the checkout for one reason or another. If I screamed and swore at them, I would be permanently hoarse by now.

If Molly had not taken the call, it could have lost her a day's earnings. Do you think the cashier even noticed as she was ringing in the groceries? Far from placing anyone as second fiddle, she was doing what most people do nowadays: multitasking! From her account, the ignorant guy behind her flipped out although she was not disrupting the flow of service.

I still fail to see what she did wrong.

Molly
You did right in keeping calm and not engaging with this Looney nutty psycho. This freak must be unstable and have mental problems.

I would have told the freak to go fuck himself. To provoke him further may have put you in danger outside the store. You handled it good. Next time (and hope no next time), call the police or have the clerk call store security (if this is an option). He’s nothing but a weiney coward picking on a lady half his size.

The freak’s big yap will get what’s coming to him one day. Let's hope much sooner…RIP dirtbag.

You did good Molly.

To the OPs credit I would diagnose her as "innocently self absorbed" in this case.

I would agree ..It is RUDE as well when the cashier picks up the phone.....It just proves my point..it is rude all the way round and causes people to react...in this case the reactor was over the top....

I try my very hardest to be courteous when answering my phone. I was waiting on a call from a CLIENT to confirm our appointment before he got on his connecting flight.

As for having my debit card ready. As soon as she started ringing through my $280 order (condoms and lube arent cheap) I propped my purse up to get my card. I keep it in the same spot. (yes I answered my phone and told thee person I was busy and would call them back)

I had the clerk suspend my order to let me go through yet he continued to yell at me.

Anyway I guess I will rethink answering my phone. So all pleAse take note if I don't answer my phone it's because I am tied up shopping and or something. Maybe I should go back to just having an old fashion land line. That should keep me from getting yelled at in public :)
