More energy, more alertness. I think they helped. We'll have to agree to disagree on this one.
Remember not to beat a dead horse but hitting in baseball is all about timing and Amphetamines just throw you off terribly.
One such example of this, is the manner in which local law enforcement perform field testing for those they suspect are impaired by such drugs.
While many may be aware of the simple "follow my pen" or "say the alphabet backwards", and the most common "Walk a straight line" test for those who are believed to be impaired by alcohol, the amphetamine test is very similar yet different - it tests an individual's timing.
"Take your right index finger, tough it to your nose. Close your eyes. Lean your head back. Now, count to 30 in your head and let me know when you are there."
- Suspect counts to 30 seconds in their head. Police officer though, has timed it to be about 6 or 7 seconds. Suspect is cautioned and arrested for suspicion of impairment by an amphetamine. Suspect is searched, and amphetimine residue is discovered.
Now, apply this to baseball. You time a pitcher's fastball, and you are amped up to hit it; but you are amped up to hit everything. So now apply that same timing principle, to when that pitcher throws a change-up or curveball. You have whiffed that bat like an 8 year old trying to hit a pitch from Jenny Finch.
