That might be true I hope, the athletes worked hard for the past four years training. We should give them a chance and let the games play out and ignore the doomsayers. The beauty of the sport is that the outcome is so unpredictable and riveting.
There is real relevance to this, of all the post WWII Games only LA1984 turned a profit. The attendance record is logical, who wouldn't want to be in LA, Rome and Barcelona for a big event.

A two part sentence. While I was happy for Genie, I was sad by what befell Vincenzo Nibali. He should not have been at the Olympics, he won the Giro then took part in the Tour and the worst happened. He broke both his collarbones - that's painful!
I'm surprised that Italy is in the Top 10 of the medal haul so far. They won several in fencing which is expected but they also picked up gold in Judo - a surprise.
Italy and South Korea often start well because of the sports scheduling. They don't finish so well.
If Canada doesn't pick up at least a single gold medal in this Olympics I'm going to be super-pissed... Sure, it's great that we have most of our medals in aquatics, but we should do better in other events... Maybe we'll recover with more rowing medals shortly.

Watched her during qualifying, seems like a sweet person.
A handful of games turn out "good" after and a strong case can be made that if you halfed te budget of any games (or more) and put that money to needed projects all cities are better off - the basic argument is that the only way to get people to be willing to spend a Dollar on public works is to spend 10 000 or os dollars on olympic advertising to make them feel good about it - the 1,000 a plate charity ball equivalent. Personally I don't think people are that shallow.

Canadians should known more about the quality if volleyball players they are producing. Alas Canadian broadcasting is dominated by hockey, a game that only 20% of Canadian kids play and that percentile is declining.
