we got the rampant street crime
and the athletes village is still not ready
AND now let's add the total corruption of the IOC in allowing the Russians to participate in these games even though they have been caught cheating and doping at every level from the top down. Money and politics trumps integrity and safety.......

1 Have a few permanent cities so the second and third time around they make $$$$$$$


2 Split the games between cities and countries

The IOC and FIFA have both backed themselves into a corner, there was a time when bids were in demand due to the prestige factor. The graft piled up as well as the debt. Torino and Vancouver were both very successful Winter Olympics but Sochi cost $6 Billion and most of that money ended up in overseas tax shelters. Presently only two nations have bid for the 2024 Winter Games, both of them dictatorships (Kazakhstan and the PRC).

FIFA is in even worse shape, Sepp Blather's lust for kickbacks has put them in the deep frier. Russia will stage the 2018 event which, like the 2008 Bejing Summer Games, will give Putin a free hand to implement progressively brutal repression. And the body count of Qatar is eating away at the entity's right to exist. There may be a revolt in the near future but, if the IOC's response to Russian doping, FIFA will not risk losing Gulf Arab money.

One idea that came up that I whole heartedly approve of is a permanent Olympic site maintained by contributions from the member nations. Once one for Summer and one for winter is built it would be a lot cheaper to maintain and occasionally replace buildings and venues.

The place can also be used year round for training(for a fee) and also for other events. Set up the TV and sell the rights.

I think the corruption for choosing has gotten so bad I fear it's time is short. Time to remove the temptation.

The Olympics should be abandoned altogether, all the other athletes should boycott in solidarity over the Russian scandal. Although they have trained for this, most don't win and never make a living from it, they can still have world championships yearly.

The IOC cleaned themselves up some years back. They are models of transparency compared to FIFA.
